Tesla Model 3 Long Range (AWD) $71,213 Drive Away after $7015 Rebate @ Tesla

92

Refreshed model 3 is now available for order. (delivery's in Q1 2024)

Notable as this is the first rebate-eligible AWD pure EV on the NZ market, very fast car for the money too.

629km WLTP range, 201km/h top speed, 4.4s 0-100.

In general, the refresh gets a new look, ventilated seats, more speakers, quieter cabin, slight jump in range & efficiency.

Technically that's RRP. Don't see it as a deal.

A risk that the rebate will be gone with National as these arrive Jan/mar 2024.

    • -2

I doubt they will remove it immediately. Most likely it will end in March/April as it normally happens. Just my opinion.

But again whoever buys an EV so that they can claim rebate is not thinking it right. Rebate should be considered as a bonus.

'…whoever buys an EV so that they can claim rebate is not thinking it right.'
That's bizarre logic. Pretty sure most people would consider $7,000 a material amount of money rather than just a bonus.

Literally the entire point of the rebate is to encourage people to buy EVs, if you're assuming you wont get it then it wouldnt encourage people to buy it. Personally Id buy a EV because I think they are better cars but Id buy one that qualifies for the rebate because its better value

        • Yes, this was the case with me. The rebate being introduced a few years back got me to buy an EV vs a number of ICE cars I had contemplated about. It meant the gap between the two types of options wasn't 15k, but only 7k which was an easier pill to swallow and ultimately the deciding factor. Now looking back, the savings on petrol alone for the last 2 years has negated that 7k as well.

  • The long range was available here until about 1 year ago.

Shruggie, I hope we don't start seeing all of the EVs appearing as deals because a rebate exists.

MG whatever, XYZ price after rebate.
Hyundai EV, XYZ price after rebate.
Audi etron, ABC price after rebate

    All deals, because rebate.

I posted this (Model 3 post refresh, long range), as it's launch pricing is notable due to it being the cheapest new AWD Pure EV ever offered in NZ. Other AWD pure EV's are around the $100k mark.

I posted the launch price of the base MG4 as it is notable as being the cheapest new EV ever offered in NZ.

Peugeot & Opel EV's I posted because they are running discounts ($11k - $13k), in addition to the clean car rebate.

I posted the Hyundai Ioniq 5 73kWh during Hyundai's "good as deals" promotion, as it got a $11,000 discount (which made it rebate eligible, hence making it nearly $20k cheaper to the purchaser).

Where's the deal? Is every electric car with a rebate a deal now?

    • +3

The refreshed model 3 is a newly released product. I felt it is notable as a deal as it is by far the cheapest AWD pure EV on the market. Competing AWD EV's start at around the $100k mark.

  • I removed the "Pre" from "Pre-order" in the heading as Orders are now open.

Not seeing a deal here in the context of this sites values.

    • Agreed not many people can just go and spend $72k on a car

    • For a new car buyer who wants an AWD EV, this product represents about a $25k reduction compared to anything else on the market.

Of course it still is an expensive car.

  • Waiting for the refreshed model y which might come last quarter of 2024. I guess model 3 might not be practical for families with kids.

Model Y is not as dated as the model 3, and allready gets some stuff like the better audio system. That said, little reason for Tesla not to give the Model Y the same refresh treatment, as features like ventilated seats, and better acoustic insulation will increase it's appeal.

Model 3 is a reasonably big sedan, so would work for some families. Not enough cargo space for a main car for our family though (without a roof box or similar), but we do travel with an abnormal amount of stuff. And it is a bit big/expensive for a second car.

If Tesla can get the long range, AWD model Y under the rebate cap (assuming the rebate still exists then), then that car will have massive appeal. Sadly, based on the model 3, the post refresh Long range is $13k more than the Standard range pre-refresh, which if applied to the model Y, would bring the price to $83,228. That said, when the model Y first launched in NZ, tesla clearly gave a sharp price to squeeze in under the rebate limit.
