They aren't for the general public. They are for the athletic types. Think of them like a shoe built for a purpose. $110 for a good pair of running shoes is considered cheap!
If you're a runner / athlete / spend a lot of time on your feet… these are an absolute godsend. I love mine, although I have the Hoka version.
You are right, $110 for a running shoes is a great deal. But these are just Jandals/Clogs with basic tread pattern, and as far I can see there is no reinforcements on the (foam)joints.
Yes, they aren't for running, they are for recovery. Walking etc. 95% of the time, used immediately after a long run / race / event etc.
They are to give your soles and arches support whilst allowing the rest of your foot the ability to breathe, rather than wearing your shoes.
Obviously I have no idea if you're a runner or not, but.. there aren't many better feelings in the world than taking off your shoes after a 1/2 marathon. And once they're off, there's no way you want to put them on again!
I think the foam they use help with joint and ankle pains. They may not be your cup of tea but as @ScoobyNZ mentioned, these aren't for the general public.
@catwasmoon: Thankfully, I am just a plain Joe belonging to the general public who enjoys taking off my soccer boots and putting on $20 slides ;).
