Just noticed some of the items in my watchlist on the US Amazon site now offer free shipping. Unsure how long this will go for.

This is useful to get some of the items that Amazon AU doesn't seem to sell.

EDIT: don't forget GST will still be added at checkout.

1. How do I receive the Free Shipping promotion on my order?

International Free Shipping to New Zealand is available on eligible products with total order value of USD 49 or more. Not all items are eligible for Free Shipping. Look for “FREE Shipping to New Zealand” or “Your order qualifies for FREE Shipping” throughout your shopping journey. Once you have a cart with eligible items and meet or exceed the promotion threshold, you will see the Free Shipping option at checkout. Once you have a cart with eligible items and exceed the promotion threshold, you will see the Free Shipping option at checkout.

2. Why didn't my order qualify for the Free Shipping promotion?

There are several reasons why your order may not qualify. Free Shipping is available if your shipping address is in New Zealand, your items are eligible, and your total order value is USD 49 or more. If your cart contains non-eligible items, you might be charged shipping fees for these items.

3. Do I need to meet the free shipping threshold of USD 49 by purchasing one eligible item?

No, you can meet the threshold either by buying several eligible items with a total value that meets or exceeds the free shipping threshold – or you can purchase one eligible product that costs USD 49 or more.

4. Why does the Free Shipping threshold change when I shop in the New Zealand Dollar?

The Free Shipping threshold is USD 49. The threshold in local currency is based on the conversion rate to the United States Dollar and may vary. The current currency conversion rates are displayed in the currency picker and at checkout.

5. How fast will my order be delivered if I choose Free Shipping at checkout?

Estimated delivery time will be provided at checkout and varies depending on item availability & delivery address.

6. Am I still required to pay for import fees on my order?

There are no changes to the Amazon.com import fee deposit policy. To review the policy go here.

7. Are import fees or VAT included for calculating the minimum threshold for the Free Shipping promotion?

Import Fees and VAT are not included in the Free Shipping eligibility calculation. The Free Shipping threshold must be met based on the price and quantity of the eligible items.

  • Nice find, do you have an example of an item that has free nz shipping on it?

If you follow the link, there's a filter in the search box so you can search by "New Zealand Free Shipping", or click on the categories further down the page.

It has actually been around for a while; good you found it. Same applies to certain Amazon UK items.

    • Could have shared with the rest of us? Don't think it's been posted before. I knew of Amazon US items shipping free via Amazon AU but not direct from US…

        I thought it was…..

Similar promotions have been run in the past, but something definitely changed on Amazon in the last 24 hours. Nothing in my cart was offering free shipping yesterday but some things are free shipping today.

          • @quacko: Yeah you've been able to buy Amazon US items via Amazon AU with free shipping for a while. But being able to buy Amazon US items direct from Amazon US with free shipping to NZ hasn't been a thing since 2018 IIRC https://www.cheapies.nz/node/16498

            • @Nil Einne: I miss that 2018 promo, Could get so many bulky things shipped for free.

  • Finally! It's been years

  • Great to see. Always bugged me to see 'free' shipping via amazon.au when all they did was bump up the price to include freight.

Not always true… But I find it odd that their product pricing fluctuates almost daily on the items I monitor in my wish list.

I agree the price on Amazon AU isn't just Amazon US+shipping. It's a little higher than the price on Amazon US+GST+currency conversion margins, but it's often below what you add for shipping. Of course for Kiwis buying from Amazon AU we have the added disadvantage we're generally paying double margins as we pay Amazon to convert USD to AUD then whoever to convert from AUD to NZD. But still even then whenever I have checked it's generally been cheaper to buy via AU than direct from US with non-free shipping even just using credit card not Travelwise or whatever for currency conversion.

As for constant fluctuations, maybe currency conversion? If it's from Amazon US via Amazon AU then price is going to fluctuate constantly, just depends how often they choose to adjust it. If it's from third party seller, some of them do some weird automated stuff to compete with other sellers.

  • Pity theres not SSD's etc with FS, very limited for stuff that interests me

      • thanks but I have 800usd in gift card credit tied to my account that can only be used on .com

        • I dont have that much, but I have a couple of hundred the same. It is really annoying how it wont work across countries when its the same company and other things do work across countries. No idea why they dont let giftcards.

  • This is great. Be careful with the input power voltage as some items may be rated for 120v. Yes you can use convertors, still its a hassle.

Woah this is a big deal. I'm always hanging out for specials on wyze gear and now they have free shipping.

    • I thought those cams don't work outside US?

      • They do. Super value for money.

        • You don't have to worry about voltage or anything?

          • +1

@Nesianone: Nah, they run off USB. All of my cams are from .com, although I did have a DOA cam once and it was a pain in the ass to convince them that shipping it back was insanely expensive (despite them saying they'd credit me back). They eventually relented and let me keep it when I showed them an estimate from NZpost for 2x the cams value.

edit: Oh, this thread is REALLY old!

  • There seems to be quite a lot excluded from the free shipping offer. What's everybody buying?

    • +1

I bought a drink bottle and a thermos container for my kid to take to preschool, both pretty pricy items admittedly but unavailable in NZ (thermos funtainer) and about $5-6 more each on Amazon AU vs US. Did need to bump over the threshold but I always chuck gifts in my cart to spread out Christmas shopping so just did one of those.

  • Definitely have to take a look. Hopefully the filter works better than the Ship to New Zealand one I put on where most items still wouldn't ship here.

  • Wish they can have the free shipping on most items like few years ago again. I bought a 35cm thick queen size memory foam mattress last time it was a such huge box even compressed, the local courier company refused to deliver to my door and asked me to pick it up at their depot :-P

    • haha yeah I remember those golden days…buying massive bulky items (I managed to get a fireproof/waterproof safe!!) for free!

I am struggling to find anything that ships for free. Like nothing with battery or bbq related

    • International shipping that involves batteries is always problematic. Red tape galore.

With this offer, it's a good idea to keep an eye on Slickdeals (US deal site).

    Amazon - Computers
    Amazon community deals

  • Anyone found any good deals on power tools?

All I could find for the free shipping deal were some Makita knock-offs.

    • Same, I am looking for ryobi brushless drill combo's couldn't find much.

      • Where about are you? You could buy my brushless combo off me so I can justify getting Makita with the missus..

        • West Auckland. Pm me with details.

          • +1

            @ace310: Bugger I'm in Welly.
With the current freight hike you might even score a better deal up there!

    • You might find that's because of battery issues. Yes, batteries and items with batteries can be sent. But you need all the correct paperwork and packaging. Many international shippers seem to decide the extra work means they put it in the can't be bothered basket.

    • Just had a quick look at AEG (Ridgid in the states) tools a jig saw at Bunnings is $395, on Amazon it comes out to around $195 with free shipping. Skin only of course. Only down side would be warranty issues but you could always buy another and still be $5 better off.

Choosing the New Zealand Free Shipping filter didn't help, but there's a little box that says "Eligible for Free Shipping" that I checked and that did it.

    • Yes ticking that box for Eligible for Free Shipping works! Thank you!

  • Got my first item ordered on 3rd August, dispatched 4th and arrived today. Quicker than some NZ sites and half the price.

They are doing this with many countries they are planning to launch in the near future. I was in Philippines for a year and it was the same. Very efficient most of the time, however, if a delivery goes missing and even when it says on their page the delivery went missing, its a nightmare to get a refund. You have to wait until the cut off time, keep contacting them through their hopeless chat, then you have to fill out a form and then await a refund.

But that said, I really had a good experience.

    • The reps are pretty hopeless when your package is lost, mine was sitting on california for 3+ weeks and I was forced to wait until 3 days after the shipping timeframe had passed and then they refunded me.

      • Yes, almost same situation. The problem is, even if you tell them the package shows as lost in your Amazon order page, they dont care.
