  • You're a few months late

Edit. I see what you're saying now. I've updated the title.

  • Its been like this for awhile im pretty sure? been ordering stuff since late last year with the free shipping.

    • +4

No, this is different, items were previously only shipped from Australia.
Theres a huge range of new products that were not even on the AU site a few days ago.

  • +1

If there was a product you were looking at on the US store, good chances its now available on AU store. I've found just about everything I needed.

    • Can you share some examples please.

      • +2

I purchased a bunch of imaginext toys for my son, surface pro case, phone case etc. Had them in my cart in the US store a few days ago and then decided to check AU store for some reason and these were all available.
The products shipped from AU say "Free shipping to New Zealand", the products shipped from US now say "free international shipping to NZ"

        • Cheers for the response. Yep I've spotted it now. Good find.

    • Good spotting. Does the new title make sense?

      • Yep

I was shopping for some flush cutters recently. Amazon AU only had one size option that shipped to NZ. A few days later I doubled checked, now the other sizes were available 'shipped from Amazon US'.

  • Does Amazon AU display the price in NZD or AUD when at checkout?

    • +1

Either of them. You can select which to be used.

      • oh nice, thanks for that

        • When you enter credit card your select what currency you rent to use for it.

      • I don't think this is true. Amazon US allows you to choose currency, but Amazon AU always requires you to pay in AUD.

Formula for working out how much it's going to cost is basically

        1. Remove AU GST (-10%)
        2. Add NZ GST (+15%)
        3. Add shipping cost
        4. Convert AUD to NZD
        5. Add any currency conversion costs from your credit card

Example, an item that is AUD $100 with $10 shipping with an exchange rate of 1 NZD = 0.88 AUD and a 2% credit card surcharge would cost you

        NZD (100/1.1*1.15+10)/0.88*1.02 = NZD 132.77

        • +1

Amazon AU now let me change currency to NZ, must be new.

        • NZD (100/1.1 + 10) *1.15/0.88 * 1.02

You forget to multiple shipping cost with GST :)

          • +1

@kiwijunglist: Amazon AU seems to include NZ GST in their shipping cost already, so no I didn't forget :)

        • You have to pay in AUD but you can set it to display all costs in NZD and in checkout it shows the NZ GST as well. I've put something in my cart now to test and it states "order totals include estimated NZ GST". Clicking on that separates the cost out and confirms it (though in that case it shows as AUD (Total before GST: AUD 68.33
Estimated GST to be Collected: AUD 10.25).

  • +1

    This is amazing!

  • +2

look forward to more amazon deals here

  • +3

It used to be AUD$59 above to get free shipping, it’s been reduced to $49.

  • +2

Watch the pricing though, I priced one item from amazon USA, and it was 29.24 nzd including gst, the exact same item at amazon AU - shipped from USA, was $38.05 nzd including gst.
But the AU deal still cheaper if you can get the free shipping, but there might be cases where it will be cheaper to ship from amazon usa directly, if the shipping cost is low.

  • Maybe I'm blind, but where is the Musical Instruments category in the drop down list of categories on Amazon AU? I know how to get to it through search, but where's the link in the category section?

  • nope, your not blind, its not in categories.

    • Yeah that aspect of amazon is painful, it's not a full category tree like you'd be used to from say trademe listings etc.

      • yep, I've never used it

  • +3

Yeah I have been ordering form Amazon AU on the regular and was $59 to eligible for free shipping so now you only need to spend $49.

Also you can "subscribe" to products to have products resent to you and get an extra 10% off then cancel once it has been sent at no cost.

    • Can you subscribe for the first item and then cancel, or does it have to be the second order of the same item and then you get the discount +- cancel?

      • First item should work.

      • +1

Can do it on any order that allows subscribe and save.

        To get these prices:

        • Add to cart
        • Click cart
        • Click Save 10% now with Subscribe & Save.

Technically speaking, S&S isn't available to NZ addresses but we still have access to the savings. Simply cancel your subscription once payment has gone through (you'll also get an email stating that there is an issue with the S&S).

  • Bloody superb!!!

  • I got myself an electric blanket y'day using the offer.

Was wondering about getting a new thermoscan 7 thermometer was well, my last one died after 3 years of frequent use. It's about $100-105 nzd delivered which is not bad.

  • +1

Be mindful of price manipulation though. On Amazon AU I looked at an airfryer last week that was $214 NZD including free delivery. Today the same item is on sale down to $177 NZD but now delivery is $43 bringing the total to ~$220.

    • have to check camelcamelcamel

      • Doesn't cover shipping to NZ AFAIK

  • I have about $500USD gift card credit on the US site, any recommendations what to buy that I can flick off locally to recover the same value?

    • Be unusual you will be able to convert to equal value, or even close.

If you were selling something, on, say, TradeMe, and it was new, most potential purchasers would not be looking to pay more than about 65% of the same price they could purchase it for themselves, and that assumes you have a good number of positive feedbacks. If you were selling on FaceBook Marketplace, maybe 35% - the buyer will always consider counter-party risk (of not knowing you - even if they don't know that is what they are considering!), plus warranty benefits (potentially) for buying new from a retailer.

Easier option might be to sell the gift card itself, but both you and the purchaser have the same counter-party risks (unless you happen to know someone that would want to buy it at full value which would be the best option I would say).

If you are selling the gift card, and it not to someone you know you can trust, I would suggest getting the payment in cash, preferably at your bank, and just deposit the funds there and then so you know the notes are not dodgy. Even then, I have no idea what would happen if the bank discovered they were dodgy after the fact.

Bit like selling a vehicle - you used to be able to meet at the bank, have the purchaser write out a cheque to 'pay cash', and you fill in a deposit slip for the same amount. Hand both to the cashier, who (nominally) counts out the notes and coins, gives them to the purchaser, who hands them to you, and you give them back to the cashier (not physically of course). That way, there is no risk to the vendor at all. However, no more cheques, so can't do that now, unless you used a 'bankers cheque' perhaps, but fees would be painful.

      • Yeah I was thinking of buying something like m2 SSD's and reselling them but the prices can be pretty close to local so I could lose 75-80%.

Problem is the gift cards are already claimed on my account, I can't use gift card credit to buy other gift card credit to send people etc or transfer it to Amazon AU which would be much better for me.

        • Bugger!

You might get the best overall recovery by just holding and spending over time, even though that does represent a loss in terms of the time value of money, even if inflation affecting USD was zero, which it isn't.

    • +1

I don't thing you can use USD gift card on Amazon AU. I could be wrong though.

  • This is a great find, thanks. I've been wanting some US items for a while but was put off by $20+ shipping

  • +1

Couldn't get it to work on amazon US. I don't quite understand the deal…works OK on Amazon AU just fine.

    • You're buying things sold by Amazon US or UK through Amazon AU (amazon.com.au).

      • Thanks, I didn't realise this was possible.

    • You have to buy things on Amazon AU which are shipped by Amazon US.

  • Hey great news. I mentioned a long while ago that it would be great if Amazon AU would ship Amazon US items they list here. Now they not only do but include free shipping (although haven't checked the range which they will ship here). Further this will hopefully open many UK etc items here which we've been denied since the requirement to GST collect GST came.

Edit: Actually I'm wrong, just checked and it seems Amazon UK and I think maybe most of the EU and Japan stores ship directly here again possibly since ~ August https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/721711 so I suspect my comment here https://www.cheapies.nz/comment/141977/redir was wrong. To be fair I had checked a few months ago and Amazon UK still didn't seem to ship to NZ, and it was very confusing since their page suggested they did until you actually tried to check out so was annoying to check.

    • Yeah - I've just bought something from Amazon UK on Amazon AU with Free Shipping which is awesome. Will definitely now just check amazon.com.au for all my items first going forward.

  • what does "or Amazon US/UK Stores @ Amazon AU" mean? thx

    • Items sold by Amazon US or Amazon UK through the Amazon AU website.

Some items are dispatched and sold by Amazon AU, some items are dispatched and sold by Amazon US or Amazon UK, and you can find a variety of these items on amazon.com.au (@ Amazon AU).

The product below for example is shipped and sold by Amazon US.

If I add AU$49 worth of that product to my cart, I qualify for free shipping. But if I add just $28 worth, and then I add a $30 item sold by Amazon AU, I don't qualify.

    • Many but not all Amazon US and Amazon UK items are available at the Amazon AU store (https://amazon.com.au).

For example if you check this item
      https://www.amazon.com.au/WD_BLACK-SN770-Internal-Gaming-Sol…
      You may see it says:
      Ships from Amazon US
      Sold by Amazon US

If you look at other sellers you may see
      Ships from Amazon AU
      Sold by Amazon AU
      and
      Ships from Amazon UK
      Sold by Amazon UK

Note that the default seller and displayed sellers may vary depending on price, availability and other factors. (Clicking on 'new from' should show all currently available sellers.)

      • If you pay attention to OzBargain, you will see some deals posted from Amazon US or UK via AU. In the past, those deals were not available to us unlike some but not all normal Amazon AU deals on OzBargain. But now they may be. E.g. this is one still valid https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/727982

There are others which while dead probably would have been available (since you can buy the items from Amazon US/UK on Amazon AU with free delivery now but the price has gone up)
        E.g.
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/728252 (this one would have been below $49 so you would have needed to buy something else or 2 or something to be eligible for free shipping)
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/727930

  • Is there some way to filter Amazon AU to just show the US/UK products?

    • +1

Edit: Actually I just realised one reason you'd want to do this is if you need to meet the $49 since it's separate, sorry. That said, my comment below still partially applies. Even if this is possible it's still confusing since Amazon may show you Amazon US/UK only but you might be missing out on a better price from Amazon AU so whether it's worth to pay more to get the free shipping is going to depend on how much more etc. Unfortunately I don't think there's any simple solution for this problem.

Is there any reason you'd want to? While occasionally it can be weird, Amazon generally shows the best price if multiple are available. If it's cheaper direct from Amazon AU with free shipping, not sure why you'd want to get it from Amazon US/UK instead.

Note if you are browsing Amazon US or UK and want to check if it's available on Amazon AU, you can just convert the domain to amazon.com.au and it should work and you can check availability. (As per above, the default store may not be Amazon US/UK if it's cheaper from Amazon AU even if it's available on Amazon US/UK on the AU store, you may have to check out more sellers to find Amazon US/UK.)

  • +2

For some items that ship from UK/US, you have to trick Amazon AU. Example this NVME deal on OzBargain. By default it will show 'Currently unavailable'.

To fix this, click near the top left 'Deliver to xxx' and enter a random Aus Address. You should now be able to add the item to your cart.
When you get to the 'review your order' step, change your Delivery address back to your default option.

    • great info, thanks!

    • Interesting not necessary for me now whether I'm logged in or out. Also wasn't needed when logged out about 3 hours earlier (I checked before posting above). Wonder if it was just a temporary problem and refreshing would have been enough? Doesn't seem to be stock related as both now and earlier was no indication of low stock. Also no other sellers listed (either now or before) so assume it wasn't because they were showing another seller as the default

      • In my case, refreshing the page etc does not fix this issue. I still need to change to an Aus address to add the item to my cart.

        • Weird. Is it the same when logged out? (You don't have to log out, just open the URL in private/incognito mode of your browser or use a different browser where you're not logged in.) If geolocation is correct it will should be shipping to NZ by default when logged out or you can change it.) If it only happens when you're logged in, maybe it's just some Amazon weirdness or could be because I've never bought anything from Amazon Australia or for some reason it doesn't like your NZ address.

Good to know for future in case it affects me too. BTW, 2000 is a NSW postcode which I find easy to remember.

    • works for me without the trick. YMMV

  • Holy crap thats fast…ordered some toys for my son from US on 3rd Oct and arrived this morning, ordered some other stuff from AU on the 3rd also that still hasn't arrived.

    • That's strange - my stuff from AU normally comes faster. What did you order from AU?

  • Can someone do me a solid by reporting this deal and state that it's a long running offer.

    • Looks like it is already showing as 'long running' - am I missing something?

      • Nah I'm just blind.

  • I ordered some stuff on 3 February from AU but until now they still haven't shipped it. :(
Does anyone have issues with delays like this recently?
