OzBargain post More feedback

This is the Ready To Run (RTR) RC truck the OzBargain guys love. Tough, decently fast and good battery life.

I recommend reading this review I wrote some time ago: https://www.quadifyrc.com/rccarreviews/hbx-16889a-pro-review…

This one doesn't usually deliver to NZ but it does at present and better yet it's on a very good flash sale.

Cool review regardless of anyone purchasing. Well done 👍

    • Cheers mate

  • @NS How does it compare to this cheaper one, do you know?

It looks like Mjx comes with two batteries hbx comes with one.

I imagine they are fairly similar why don't you google mjx m163 there are a few review comparing it to the hbx model.

I would hazard to guess the hbx is slightly better.

Looks like it's based on the MJX platform which I suspect is from the same factory. Should be good but with these cars I can't recommend unless I've actually tried it myself. It's a little out of date but here is a list of the cars that I had tried when I did a big comparison https://bit.ly/QUADIFYRCMASTERCARGUIDE

  • The difficulty of obtaining spare batteries though! Can you buy them in NZ?

    • +1

Yeah, we got a similar one a while back and it's a standard lipo with a fairly common size and connector.

      • For my hobbyking RC Car, I tried to buy an extra battery from a local hobby store. But, the owner seemed upset I bought an RC car from China and was being grumpy and difficult . So I left without a battery. Not going there again. I'll have a look at online kiwi hobby stores this time.

        I think, 7.4v 1s lipo with deans connector between 1000mah and 2400mah.

  • Thanks, hit the buy button on this — I bought an RC car from hobbyking before but the car was breaking all the time due to cheap components on an overpowered motor… gearbox internal gears stripped, power transfer cogs stripped, suspension arms snapped, and so on. This one looks better, parts are better balanced against motor power.

Although, Banggood didn't accept my order yet, say they want to check my credit card manually. Never seen this before.

Banggood seems a bit scammy — they are dodgy on promised discount coupons … i split my order into two (car + better battery charger). Banggood said if I bought the first order, then I would get a $20 discount on my next order. I placed the first order, but, the $20 discount coupon never appeared for the second.

    • Yeah they were an early front shop for AliExpress back in the day. Stopped using them after AliExpress became more accessible.

    • Yeah, with Banggood and other retailers in that part of the world, you take them one deal at a time. Customer service have no teeth at all which why I always go via paypal. Credit card check is no drama, I hear of this from time to time.

That aside it's a great little car. Tough as buggery and very well balanced in terms of components.

  • What's the difference between this (16889a) and the black 16889? Considering getting two for the kids to race, but want them to be the same.

    • 16889 brushed motor
      16889a brushless motor
16889a pro brushless motor oil shocks and some other upgrades.

      Buy the pro.

  • Price changes to $153.30 after a fraction of a second at the sale price for me. Why.

    • I think the deal is over and the price is fine up slightly
