Probably not a freebie since you have to buy something to be able to scan your card (I'm guessing).

Cheapest item might be Countdown Reusable Fruit & Veg Bag Single $0.60

    • Yep, you're right. Removed the tick.

    • +1

Damn. Got some $0.60 haters in the room.

      • Not sure how your comment warrants the neg votes? 🤷‍♂️

      • That gets canceled off every time you do God's work so don't lose sleep over it.
After that PnS post, your profile should automatically disable downvotes. 😂

      • I’m grateful for all the competitions and deals you post Wakrak - the amount of sharing you do is awesome - and you deserve to win some massive comps due to all the effort you put in. Thanks

  • +1

They're doing the same with the fuel discount - scan 4x in June and get 12c/ltr off.

  • I notice it says "Just scan your Digital Onecard 4 times this month" guessing they mean the app not your plastic onecard.

    • +3

Yeah. Tho I've been using a screenshot from the myCountdown App, rather than keeping the app installed.

      • +2

You can also just add the new world and countdown cards to your google wallet

        • That might work too. I find it easier with the picture because we all share the same card as a family, and all the pictures are in a group chat so they are easy to find and use.

          • +2

@OmgItsHeaven: Or you can use something like Stocard. Have been using it since few years and it's great.

      • +1

The app has been playing up so bad lately…trust me, you're not missing anything. Haven't used the app for a while. It won't work.

        • +2

Haha. Too busy making them profits.

    • Good spot about it being the digital card, I missed that.

    • Well spotted Johno - I would have missed that!

  • +5

It normally takes $1.00 spend to receive 1 point. 2000 points is worth a $15 voucher.

How generous of them to offer a 0.0075% discount

    • I also forgo the $15 every so often, as it is so small, that it makes logical sense not to claim it.

    • +6

      0.75%

    • +2

nice maths. you're right, it's rather pathetic, but they are an Australian company so their heart isn't here.

      • It's better than new world. New world is $25 for 1 flybuys point and you need 28 points for $5. So that's $700 to get $5 but likely more as I don't think you get partial flybuys points.

NW does have the benefit that it is through flybuys and you can opt to choose flybuys or thr petrol discount which works out better if fuel is your thing.

        • At least with NW you can get airpoints and accumulate from other places so that you can actually use them on something.

Think this will be the first time i actually use countdown points.

          • @Poppymocky: Yeah the NW airpoints earn rate is slightly better at about $675 spend for $5 airpoints, but again I'm not sure about partial points or if it's only every $25 spend. The only things I've used airpoints for are flights and the M10 gift card.

In terms of supermarket shopping, I shop at Countdown 30% of the time and Pak N Save the rest. Usually only shop at countdown if there's a really good special like the half price specials or there's a $10/$20 spend off $100. I usually get about one $15 voucher a year.

            • +1

@Stoic: I'm the same - I shop the specials at CD and NW, and do the main shop at PNS and a local vege shop.

That way, I get the best prices overall, as most weeks CD or NW will be much cheaper than PNS on a few things. Works especially well if those items are non-perishable and / or work well to freeze.

If you haven't got a chest freezer (or enough freezer space in general in whatever form), I would estimate that picking one up for, say, $400 (haven't looked in many years so I might be way off), you'd get a full payback in about twelve months for a family of four. Probably just about the best rate of return on investments you can get, and pretty much risk free!

        • Am I missing the point here? 5/675 = 0.0074 which is worse than the 0.0075 countdown and every now and then countdown gives bonus points for certain amounts spent as well as bonus items (but these items will be full price). I'm sick of being ripped off by New Worlds high prices! Add the discount vouchers too. As well as the prize draws they do every now and then (like they're doing now).

Countdown voucher is direct cash for your next spend, Airpoints a little harder to use.

Agree with everyone just buying specials at CD/NW. But yeah paknsave shopping negates most of the above…

    • +4

      @rubinite - Your math is off, it's not a 0.0075% discount.

      It's 0.75% voucher return if it's $15 per $2000 spend.

      (Or)

The discount is 0.74% (15/2015x100) ie $15 off a $2015 spend on petrol.

  • Could anyone tell me how to update your details online to get the points? I have changed phone number but there's no up in points.

    • Step 5.

You’re all set! Your rewards will be added to your account at the end of the month.

      • Hi Wakrak,

Where are you seeing numbered steps?

        i am going to:

        Account Options - Personal Details

        I added a mobile number

I don't see any numbered steps, nor anything to indicate I would get points at any juncture.

        Thanks,

        Alan.

          • @ace310: Hi Ace,

            I must be really stoopid!

I went to that page - it does say you have to 'Verify and update your delivery address under “online shopping”' (so not just any old details).

I couldn't seem to do anything with my existing address, so I added the same address again, which did then appear as a second (albeit identical) address, which I then deleted.

I've added / changed phone numbers again under 'Preferences and Account Details - Personal Details', but still nothing to indicate I would be getting any points.

            Am I missing something obvious?

            Thanks,

            Alan.

Boost your rewards by updating your details online and you’ll receive 500 Onecard points or 6 cents off per litre.

              1. Sign in to your online account
              2. Head to “More account options”
              3. Verify and update your delivery address under “online shopping”
              4. Ensure your phone number and email address are up-to-date under “preferences and account details”
              5. You’re all set! Your rewards will be added to your account at the end of the month.
              • @ace310: Yep - tried all that, but I don't see anything indicating that I will be actually getting the points.

How did you 'verify' your delivery address?

What kind of confirmation did you get / see?

                • @Alan6984: Didn't get any confirmation, so I am assuming that should be it.

Anyone can correct me if they got some sort of confirmation.

                  • @ace310: If I look in the countdown app while signed in, it shows my current points. Might be another option to check if it is working

                    • @2cheap: Yes. no issues with the login. I can see all details along with my onecard number & points. Also all the boosts I can earn.

Didn't get any confirmation regarding 500 points, so I am assuming I will get it.

    • … update their email address …

Odd when their own 'advert page' explicitly says you have to 'Verify and update your delivery address under “online shopping”'

All Digital Onecard scans must be scanned through the myCountdown app.

      Interesting.

      • It's to get people to use the App, my guess is they're gonna stop the plastic cards soon

        • Not sure about killing the plastic cards - I suspect many customers would stop using 'OneCard' if they killed off the plastic cards.

    • Thanks Wakrak.
Is anybody happy yet? No… Good 😉

We're in the Greatest Depression for the last 20 yrs
Most of us are "Hide The Pain Harold" thumbs upping our way through each day😅

        • I'm more of a high fiving moral booster. High fives help to plow through the day 😁

        • 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Huntakillaz, your comment is gold!

I’ll thumbs up to that! 👍

  • Did someone already receive their 1000 bonus points?

    • Not me - you'd have to have been pretty quick off the mark to get them already!

      • Just scan four cheap items in seperate transactions at the self check out?

        • I guess - not something that would have crossed my mind.

        • +1

I did this yesterday, points not applied instantly and still haven't been after 24 hours. The terms say:

Onecard rewards under this offer will be applied to the customer’s Onecard account by 11:59pm on Wednesday, 12 July 2023

So probably won't seem them till next month

  • What is better ? Fuel discount or $15 voucher?

I generally fuel up about 45-50L each time and use the discount each time.
(I don't have the patience/time to full up with $40 each time to accumulate discount and then use it all in one go).

    • I would think the voucher is better.

If you spent $100 x20 times then you would get 3c off per litre x 50 litres x 20 times = $15 fuel discount

But if you spent $150 x 20 times then you still get 3c off per litre x 50 litres x 20 times = $15 fuel discount

However if you spent $150 x 20 times you would get a $15 voucher and be half way to a second voucher.
And if you spent $80 x 20 times you would get no fuel discount but you would be 80% of the way to a $15 voucher.

  • +2

I found a loophole with the AA Smartfuel that will give you 50liters of fuel for $8.80 of spending at countdown.

There's a bit of (profanity) round with…. *Getting 20 of the FREE cards you get at countdown. *Linking them together with the App. *buying 1 date at a time, 4 times per card, 4 totally separate purchases of 1 Date (and only 4 times per card) Costing $8.80 (.11c per Date) A total of 80 separate purchases on 4 swipes of each onevard/AA Smartfuel card totalcost being the $8.80.

The promotion where this loophole is exploited is "swipe 4 times this month to get .12c added to your Smartfuel card" .12c X 20 linked cards is $2.40c per litre off at 50liter max.

Now is your time worth that? That's upto you but for $120 worth of fuel for $8.80 of dates….. well (profanity) countdown and there profits while we all suffer with food costs.

Oh and I chose Dates because that was the cheapest item where the scales would pick up the weight.

Try it with friends, a fun family outing, a first …..Date… perhaps who knows, but exploiting is fun, drink Yorkshire Tea.

    • Nice. Rather like this.

    • This one caught my eye too, but obviously very traceable back to you:

When you have a $15 OneCard voucher ready, don't use it. Next time you go to the supermarket, take someone else. Go through the self checkouts at the same time, different machines. Swipe your card while scanning. Swipe the same card through the other person's scanner. Both of you will get offered the $15 voucher. Both can say yes. Your balance does NOT go to $-15

      • That $15 voucher glitch works even if you dont checkout at the exact same time. When I am working on checkouts I have had customers who have used their onecard for two seperate transactions and the popup comes up twice. Seems like their system is pretty slow at updating the onecard vouchers

  • Just got this email 🤔

Wonder if the two promos stack.

    Kia ora ,

      Nice little bonus right there.

      • Thx for posting this deal, wowbigdeal, good find 😁

    • I got one this week too - spend $250 get 3500 points (only 14x the points)

  • Is it just me that when I go into full t&cs, it says minimum of $20 transactions required? Have they changed the rule? If so, I wonder whether this might be why some of you haven’t got the 1000 points yet?

    • It seems they changed the T&C's.

      • Can they do that?

        • +1

          It's built into the T&C

          "Variations
Countdown reserves the right to vary any of the terms of redemption applying to this promotion or to modify, terminate, suspend or reschedule this promotion."

    • Booo. I’ve done 3 transactions of under $20 in the past week and a bit. Needed 1 more 😔

    • Noticed this as well, so my wife and I split our groceries into 20$ lots yesterday.

    • Bugger I had 2 transactions under $20

    • No wonder, i have made 4 small transactions in-store just for this to only to find this now. Try to do shopping online now because of the discount code. 1000pts is like $7.5

    • Is the $20 minimum before or after gst? Doesn't say anything in t&c.

I have 2 transaction for around $22+ after gst. If it needs to be before gst then my transaction won't qualify.

      • I would say it's after GST as they are supposed to clearly advertise the final price with GST, it would be totally misleading if not.

  • Would countdown gift card purchase count?

    • +1

doubt it, just do 1-2 grocery shops in the next 6 days and split them into $20 lots

keep your receipts in-case point don't get allocated, you have proof

  • Reminder. Still available until Friday 30/06.

  • Just received 1000 points for using the Onecard 4 times but didn't get the 500 points for updating details

    • I think I did too, but thought maybe it was just because someone linked to my card bought something to earn one
