Dyson V8 Origin Plus $478 (Was $649) @ JB Hi-Fi

80

Pretty good price for a V8 hand held vacuum cleaner. Normally just under $500 at Heathcotes.

Model is getting quite old but still seems to get the job done.

  • Does anyone prefer a cordless over corded? I can't imagine the batteries have anywhere nearly as much power as a 2kw vac, what's the benefit?

    • +2

There are pros and cons to both. The biggest advantages are they are light weight and portabile for me.
You don’t need to have a cord dragging around behind you. I find it much easier vacuuming stairs for example.

Also, you’re confusing Kw with suction. A 2Kw corded vacuum simply consumes 2Kw of electricity in an hour - it has nothing to do with suction which is what you need to compare.
For small jobs a cordless is great. For large areas then corded might be better.

Yeah the batteries are only good for small jobs. The idea is lots of small frequent vaccums rather than one big one in the weekend.

I got an adapter for my v8 so i could use my makita 18v 5a batteries and swap them out when they go flat. Works a treat.

Unfortunately no adapters for the v10 as it runs at a higher voltage.

      • I have a v11 and the run time is more than sufficient for 260sqm

      • Where did you get the adapter from? AliExpress?

        • Yes from aliexpress like the one in your link

      • I’d be keen to know too please as to where the adapter was sourced from. And if it would work with other branded batteries. Thanks

        • +1

Aliexpress but also trademe have them - don't know about other branded batteries but I would say so (Dewalt especially)

only prefer for small jobs/house/car for convenience since you only get 40mins, everything else i use corded.

I've had the v6 for at least 4 years. Batteries still at about 80%. Does around 20 minutes which proved to be enough for a small 4 bedroom house and most of a large house if going around quickly. Big positive is that it actually gets used at least once per week, much more than old 2kW Kambrook. Also, does a better job. No regrets about purchase (was $299 at heathcotes)

Depends on how much money you've got to throw away. Three or four years you're up for a new battery $140. Buy a good vacuum cleaner like a Miele Complete C3 if you want something the last at least 15 years. We have a couple of Dyson stick vacuums (both new batteries after three and four years) just for convenience but when we vacuum the house will use the Miele.

      • Yeah the batteries crap out pretty quickly on Dyson's, or just fail completely. We have had a couple of earlier models over the years. We changed to a Xiaomi robovac which gets used endlessly, amazing. Stairs still need a solution. Replacement battery for our Dyson $130; can buy a Bosch minivac/dust buster that uses our tool batteries for a similar price to the Dyson battery (assuming you already have the Bosch batteries; other brands have similar products) and probably more convenient for small jobs and tidy ups.

We have been very disappointed with our Dyson's given how much they cost.

        • It's not the batteries it's the controller apparently a common problem with these Dyson battery packs. I've taken 4 apart and not one battery has failed. On the plus side I now have an abundance of 18650 batteries.

          • @pdevonporf: Problem, or planned obsolescence? Do you have a workaround for a Joe bloggs?

            • @jonnochen: I have one with an adapter and a DeWalt battery which is only a solution if you are in the DeWalt ecosystem or Bosch, Milwaukee etc. You can now get adapters from aliexpress for most brands. Although you lose the convenience of auto charging you do get twice the vacuuming time. I do have 8 DeWalt batteries so there's no problem for me. You can buy new controllers these Dyson batteries but the cost and the risk that it may not work I could not be bothered.

Yeah being so easy to use, I like others have posted actually use it more frequently than corded. I have a V6 and would never go back to corded. Bit like battery tools, so much less hassle. Sure I can't do my whole house on a single charge, but that's fine, i'll do a few rooms and charge it back up. Some areas don't need vacuuming so no big deal. Gave our 2kw corded unit to sally army shop. Just have to clean out the filters frequently to keep suction at it's best.

  • How does this compare with v10 ? Worth to pay extra $200 to get a v10 ?

  • I have heard the dysons are not great anymore and heard that the Samsung Jet 60/70/90 are better. Anybodoy feel like that?

    • man that is comprehensive af

      • Really good channel, as it compares different robots too

My 2c on anything dyson, keep the receipt.

I've had 2 batteries replaced by dyson within 2 years. Mine is an earlier one, a V7 I think, but the batteries are crap.

Don't use the turbo function unless you really have to.

  • does anyone have any experience with the battery attachments for common power drill batteries?.
the battery is too small and expensive.
