Second cheapest option at present for a low user in Central Auckland according to power compare (out of the ones they compare), but none of the comparison website compares all available power companies.

So at least a good short term option to consider.

Alternative options:

To have the cheapest power prices, consider switching for a range of no contract deals currently available summarised as follows. Caution credit may be lost, or not credited if they are not used up by the time before switching again. hence some timing mentioned.

  1. Z electric offers 75L of free fuel worth around ($225) within 2 weeks of sign up, no contract, (best sign up offer at present), (make sure sign up page is offering 75L

  2. Contact offers $100 off via referral (can be used for no contract option called Basic Simple energy rates), probably takes 2.5 months to get $100 credit, about 45 days to get the $100 credit and then perhaps up to another month or so to make sure $100 is used up by the next bill.

  3. Electric Kiwi offers $50 after 30 days after sign up.. no contract.

  4. Frank Energy $50 from referral (no contract) .
    https://www.cheapies.nz/deals/frankenergy.co.nz
(prices as listed on Frank energy website, no extra discount). according price compare the lowest rate at present for low user.

  5. Powershop $150 credit over a year (no contract), will get $25 credit on the first month and $3 credit using app (one off) on the first week, (free to leave at any point).

While Powershop prices are lower during summer, but overall prices are often higher over a year if you stay with them. Pricing guarantee does not actually guarantee you having the lower prices overall for the entire duration with Powershop as they offer you credit instead of refund for the extras you paid compared to your prior bill (or lower prices on offer at the time). by the time the credit is offered generally after 13 months of joining them and may take a few months to use up the credit may mean that you may end up paying more during those months.

However, may be a good short term option during summer as their prices are lower.

  • Is the contact referral still obtainable?

  • How do they consider you as a new customer if you are a second timer?

    • Some may have one year grace period like power shop but some credit or sign up offer appear to be one off. Not sure how vigorous they check. There may be different family members in the household signing up as new customer potentially.

  • So just switch via switch me to get the $100 credit and once used up, find a new provider that’s cheaper with one of the alternatives listed?

    • Yes, do note none of them offer the best price over a year. However, taking the sign up credit at least over a relatively short term beats any of long term fixed term deal.

  • Z electric is great, been with them a year or so now and fir every $100 you spend on your bill you get 5L free fuel! If anyone wants to join up I'd be sooo grateful if you used my referal code - you still get 75L free fuel but it means I get 15L for free too :) best part is no contract so free to leave at any time.

I think people have to use the referral system?

      https://www.cheapies.nz/node/31239
The referrer gets 50l of fuel not 15l.

Do note z electric prices higher than others but fuel earned is based on litres so inflation proof. So highly favourable short term option but depends on your circumstances to stay over term.

      • That’s how I did it a couple months ago using the above referral system. It took a few weeks after sign up but I got a free 75 litres of 95. It’s a big sign up bonus considering there’s no contract to make you stay with them. Like Turkeyfoot I can refer others and get a bonus myself but it’s much fairer to use the referral system gooddeals linked https://www.cheapies.nz/node/31239

        • I can confirm that the z referral code are still going based on my invoice dated 23/08/2022. I suspect some people may still post the referral code after they have moved on from Z. However, as long as the sign up page is offering 75L the new person signing up will get the 75L. Hence, I explicitly mentioned on the deal above to make sure the offer page is offering 75L before signing, so it does not matter whether the referrer had moved on or not, it just the referrer won't get the bonus fuel if they have moved on, but the new sign up person will still get the bonus as long as one sign up from the 75L bonus fuel page.

Unlike Z, some other power companies, both referee and referrer have to remain with the power company for both to get the bonus, (e.g. Contact energy), hence, the reason why not all Contact referrer's link works?

  • Can you combine this offer with referral?

Earn credit when your friends join Flick: got friends? Flick’s got the benefits. Refer friends and whānau to Flick for a $50 credit for you and a $50 credit for them. There’s no limit on the number of friends that can be referred.

No, the referral credit not in conjunction of other offers. See terms. https://www.flickelectric.co.nz/friend-get-friend-terms-and-…

But still better than standard referral deal
