      • I'm fairly sure this has nothing to do with previous Moolah. My friend with a new number, only used started using the number this month and definitely never signed up for Waitomo also got the same thing so unless someone sent moolah to a random number for no reason, it's very unlikely. Note the SMS received when winning says

Here's a $10 Moolah top-up from Waitomo. Sweet as! Redeem it in the Waitomo app. onelink.to/qepmsm Valid until 28 Jun 2022

My personal number which I have used before didn't have the 28 part. Also just got an SMS reminder so doubt it is an accident. Like the OP I wonder if this is something they implemented for new numbers (numbers they haven't seen before) perhaps to discourage people using multiple numbers. Alternatively it's some sort of marketing test or they do it when they decide your number is suspicious for whatever reason. Can anyone confirm they either didn't receive it on a new number or did on an old number?

        • Nope I did not receive any text for my new, old or main one..

        • I did end up getting some of the notifications with validity dates of 27,28,29th June.
All numbers that have been used before.
Interestingly, one even said "Don't miss out filling up with your $0 Moolah, valid until 29 Jun 2022".
Other messages for were for differing amounts.
I have used the same email address for these accounts and had notifications turned off.
No emails or SMS messages but all under the 'Notifications' tab.
Looks like if you use the same email address you receive all notifications even under a different number.

I have messaged Waitomo to ask the question as a message saying referring to $0 Moolah sounds like a mistake.

          • @bigcheese: Interesting found out my mate actually used multiple SIMs. Most of these SIMs aren't in devices except for the recent one I mentioned above. They didn't pay attention to the first message so it was only when they got the reminder they started to worry. The put all SIMs (8 total including the one already in a device) into a device to check. Besides the one I mentioned earlier, they had spun on two other SIMs not used with Waitomo before. And so all three of these did receive an SMS about it expiring on 28 June. Other SIMs which they had used with the spin to win promo before did not receive any SMS. The SMS was received almost as soon as they put the SIM into the device but they did wait 1h+ between switching just to try and make sure.

Of course the SMS could have expired or not been sent yet, but it does seem there's a difference for them. Don't know if it depends on time, they spun at around 17xx. However the new SIMs were done in a row in between old ones (i.e. it doesn't seem likely they got very unlucky and Waitomo suddenly switched while they were spinning). They used different unique mobile browsers for each SMS and even reset IP between most spins. So other than the number not being used on spin to win before, there doesn't seem an obvious difference between those 3 new ones which did receive the SMS and the 5 old ones which did not. Well the browser used for the 3 is probably a few months out of date which isn't the case for the other ones (but the same albeit more updated browser was used for another SIM) but that's it.

They're all Kogan SIMs of varying ages with original Kogan numbers (one of the new ones is an older Kogan SIM than the ones used before). They're fairly sure some of the other SIMs while previously used in the spin to win, were never signed up for a Waitomo account just like the new SIMs. The new SIMs did receive more money 2x $10 and 1x $5 whereas most of the old ones only $2 but there was one $5 which did not receive an SMS.

          • @bigcheese: How many notifications did you get? I logged in my account, they are so many notifications (I can't seem to be able to scroll down to the end of them), all saying random Moolah like $100, $73, $10, $5. I never won $100 or $73 before. So this must be an error. I didn't get the text message with expiry date when I spun. Should I still worry about my Moolah could be expiring on 29th June?

@Superpower21: Exactly the same as you.
More notifications than I can count and all for varying amounts.
I also didn’t get any expiry dates when I spun.

I messaged Waitomo from within the app but haven’t heard back yet.
              Hopefully I’ll hear back tomorrow.

  • How many Cheapies spun up $100?
I only counted two in the comments above.

    Assuming $100 was the highest?

  • Anyone having issues using the app to pay?
When trying to pay, it's stuck on, "Checking sites nearby, this should only take a moment" and never finds the sites. Checked the app has all the required permissions and my location is ON.

    • Do you have the latest version of the app?
The app forced an update a few weeks ago and won’t let you continue unless you update.

      • yep, have the latest app. Even tried after re-installing the app.

Have you got a payment card added to the app?
I know it seems weird and you don't need to in order to redeem Moolah but I did have this issue once and when I added a card it worked.
You can always delete the card afterwards.

          • @bigcheese: Sorry for the delay in responding, didn't see the notification for reply.
Yes has the card added, it was the same account that I used few weeks ago. Seems to be device issue, after the latest app update it's not working on my phone (though I have given granted all required permissions). Found another device and it worked.

            • @shami: No worries. At least you got it working in the end.

  • Did anybody else have their moolah disappear today?

    • +1

Yes - just noticed it right this minute.

In my case I lost the $5 that I won on this deal just two weeks ago.
Not sure what's going on as Moolah is not meant to expire as long as you have used the app for an in-app purchase in the last 12 months.
I made a purchase for fuel using a credit card on this account just the day before I won the $5.

Still waiting for a reply from Waitomo who I messaged on the weekend in regards to the notifications advising of Moolah expiring.

      • Yep mine expired. $50 too… rough. Was gonna go to Waitomo tonight to topup as the SMS said the credit was valid till the 28th. Keen to hear how they respond to you.

        • +1

So I'm still waiting for a response from Waitomo.
The notifications have now gone from the app, but so has the Moolah.

I messaged from the app last weekend and then messenger on Tues and followed up again yesterday morning.
Bit disappointing to still be awaiting a response.

So I have an answer from Waitomo.

Kia ora, the expiry notification appearing multiple times was a glitch but our team were onto it so this won't be showing anymore.
Your $5 Moolah you scored from our $75K Moolah 75th birthday giveaway in showing in your balance too - this will auto-redeem on your next 'appy fuel up

I can confirm that the multiple notifications have gone and I have the $5 back in my account, although not sure whether this was automatic or whether it was because I messaged them so many times.

I would suggest you send them a message in regards to your $50 - that's a lot to lose!

@bigcheese: I feel like they owe you a free spin due to the large amount of stress it's caused 😄

            • @wowbigdeal: Don’t want to push it - I think I’ve had prettty good value out of Waitomo over the past year or so.
Think we might have caused more stress to Z recently! 😎

              • @bigcheese: I think you might be right. I wonder how many heads rolled for that one

                • @wowbigdeal: Would have been great to be a fly on the wall at Z HQ last Monday morning anyway.
I get the feeling future promos might have codes like: xyz-xyzy-9999-xxxx-yyy-zzz just to be a little bit harder to guess.
