  • Will we start seeing reviews out soon? Deciding between the S22 & S22+ but I'd like to know what the battery life is like on the smaller 3700mah battery on the S22.

    • Already some on YouTube

      • The ones I've seen are just quick hands-on type videos, no in depth ones comparing battery life etc.

    • This is my toss up as well. It's mainly the battery I want in the + and the screen would actually be bigger than my pixel 3xl while the standard s would be smaller. Not sure it's worth $300 to get just these, but the bigger battery might mean I can make it last 4 years I stead of it crapping out at 3.

      • +1

Personally I hate big screen phones. I know I should get the S22+ for fast charging and bigger battery but these factors will be not be as annoying as having to live with bigger phone in the hand.. Personal preference I think.

        • +1

Reviews I watched the 45w charger on older generations say you only really gain a few minutes off your charge time, almost seems pointless having unless you really go up to something stupid like 120w Xiaomi offer. For me size wise the phone will be smaller with more screen than what I'm moving from. It's just that cost for minimal gain.

          • @Everettpsycho: I've heard those super fast chargers aren't good for you battery anyways. My current phone has 18w charging and I find that plenty (4000mah battery). So 25w is still an upgrade for me, I've preordered a base S22 256gb.

  • Does anyone know if you Trade In the device but don't return the device if you will be charged?
I know there was a deal on OzBargain (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/672642) - where you got the trade in value but you didnt need to send the phone back and you still retained the discount.

They never charged me for anything and I never returned the phone…

    • "If you do not to return your device in 7 days , you will be automatically charged the value of the trade-in credit plus a $60 (AUD) administration fee. Samsung may also charge you for any additional bonus credit which was applied to your order."

  • Looking to purchase a S22/S22+ with max discount in cash price

    Which one offers this, Samsung?

    • Pbtech and Samsung. Both offers $200 off plus around $300 worth of stuff

      • How do you get an extra $200 off from pbtech?

        • You cannot now as pb fixed it.

          • @hello1111: Because PB tech is lurking on here so be quiet haha

  • is $1899 for Ultra + case + watch the best deal now?

Has anyone seen the pink or green one in person? All the stores demo model were black and white and burgundy

  • For those after galaxy buds in particular (the few colours left), looks like this code stacks until tomorrow.

"Apply CNY2022NZ and Save $170 on Buds Pro, $70 on Buds2, Watch 4 Bluetooth 40mm and Watch 4 Bluetooth 44mm"

Put my order in last night, I was only supposed to be able to get a silicone case and buds but adding this I've managed to switch the case to a rugged standing case that's $20 more and throw in a 25W charger for the grand total of $2 more.

    • Is that the standing protective cover case? If yes I've had the same case on the S10 and dropped it so many times but not a single scratch on the phone. So worth it plus genuine Samsung and supports fast wireless charging.

      • That's the one, I often stand my phone up for YouTube videos while cooking or washing up so will save finding a stand to do that. We also have a toddler so thinking ruggedized isn't a bad call. Like I said for $2 more I think it's worth it. The voucher on the buds runs out tomorrow so if the buds pro come back in stock I'll be placing an order and cancelling mine to get the better ear buds. Not to fussed about waiting longer for the phone if I get upgraded stuff for free.

  • There's also an e-voucher promotion on the S8

  • Hopefully this will give you peace of mind, battery tests are very surprising: https://www.computerbild.de/artikel/cb-Tests-Handy-Samsung-G…

    • Europe version aka exynos chips

  • Seems the buds pro got a restock this morning. Just cancelled my order from the weekend with the buds 2 to upgrade to the pros. Cost me a whopping $10 extra after using the CNY code and I think it's worth the $10 based on reviews, plus I'm now getting black not olive green buds.

Be careful with the voucher is cancelling and messing with orders. I couldn't seem to get it to apply to my account to place a replacement order and ended up on a new account to be able to use it. It just deleted it from my basket mid checkout and won't reapply unless I'm not signed in to that account.

Looks like Snapdragon to me and 72hours review for S22. I'm glad I pre-ordered!

Where do people find the reasoning to spend 2k for a phone… its just insane.

I've always just bought flagship phones second hand past 10 years and not one of them had an issue, the lowest I've spent is 200 and the max 700.
Just bought a note 20 ultra for 700, works beautifully. (upgraded from a s10 which was $600, still new condition).

    • -1

You could also ask why people buying high specs pc, laoptop, earphones and etc. there’s need there’s market.

      • +1

But a phone is a phone, and people tend to change them every year or two. Just makes no sense. A lower end phone can do exactly the same stuff a high end phone can. only REAL difference is camera and slight speed over its predessors. Something that needs changing 1-2 years i'd 100% always buy 2nd hand. Cant justify the 2k spend for early access gimmiks i can get next year for $700ish

PC's tend to last years upon years and hold your life in it, so thats justified.
Earphones, most users dont need $400 earphones which is also crazy to think about.

        • -1

no, it is the same, high end pc/laptop will be cheaper after 2 years, you can buy 2nd hand as well based on your theory. So still the same. But there are still have people only want to buy new one and high end one.

          • @baishishun: Oh I do buy them 2nd hand, but thats just because im in IT, but I'm just saying for those who buy new, its pretty justified as PC's last years.
I replaced my PC after small 2nd hand upgrades throughout the years since 2013. Just got into VR so went the new PC route with a 3080, i7 32ram etc, should last a good 5 - 10 years.

            • @blazekid43: Ok…Phone also last years. My iphone6s still working and worked as my backup phone. Technically I can still use it just I don’t want to. It still can make phone call watch Netflix…

    • where did you get that? comes with remaining warranty?

      • These phones are built as in once piece, they don't fail really (espically the flagship ones due to quality parts). At most the screen can have dead pixels or battery lose charge. You can inspect that when you're buying. Thats why I tend not to care about warranty.

I buy off fb/trademe as needed.

        • how do you avoid stolen phones?

          • @justaddwater: Ask them to provide proof of purchase/ throw your sim in it to check if its simlocked/ free IMEI checkers
Honestly, just go with your instincts and see how the seller is, check thier listings etc.

            • @blazekid43: and do you always pay in person or are you ok with paying internet deposit and shipping?

              • @justaddwater: I personally never do shipping on anything 2nd hand. Its far easier to judge a character in person and to see if somethings legit.
In my view, buying 2nd hand gives me way more buying power making my money worth more than most people.

    • For some these are essential tools to do their jobs and run their life. If your life revolves around emails, calls, social media, taking photos out and about for work of a hobby all of this is more efficient and significantly nicer experience on these devices. There's also security issues where most manufacturers kill support after a couple of years leaving exploits open. Whilst most of these aren't huge issues for most users those that use them it's worth spending on. Considering how many hours you can spend on a phone a day I'd argue I'd rather spend a bit more and not have to deal with things like apps closing, slow responses and poor photos. Having used cheaper phones in the past and how my 3 year old device is currently performing in a battery and speed level I'd rather have brand new with a warranty to make sure it works.

That said I can't justify $2k, I pushed up to a 22+ with the hope the extra battery will mean I can squeeze at least a few extra months out of this thing before the battery craps out. The ultra was tempting but realistically all I'd be getting it for is the zoom on the camera and $400 more that needs to be something I'd use far more than I think I would.

      • You can do all that 1 or 2 generations behind easily. Think about if you really need the latest and greatest rather than waiting a year or two to buy it. You don't buy laptops every time a new processor comes out. As I said, don't settle for cheaper phones with low quality parts, just buy flagships but a gen or two behind.

-Battery doesnt die out that quickly, I still have a well used note 8 from 3-4 years ago which holds good charge, my s10 has shitty battery but thats because all s10's do even in reviews. I got a work S9 and its battery is crazy good.

-Warranty would be good but honestly, these devices are built as one pieces so they dont really fail. Havent yet had a single phone flagship phone fail on me. (cant speak for low quality phones).

If the ultra was tempting, why didnt you buy the note 20 ultra, it looks feels and has 90% of the same features of the s22 ultra.

        • +1

Technically nobody need the latest and greatest. My S10 Snapdragon dual sim can really go a few more years and I'm a power user. Might not make sense to you but there are people buying iPhones for over 2k every year.
In my case, just really wanted to experience the 120hz, 5G, upgraded storage etc and S21 brand new is about $1100, fb marketplace still asking $900-1000. S22 preorder is $1199 for 256gb minus whatever the $300-$399 worth of freebies. Works out cheaper than buying older phone/second hand. Let alone so easy to get scammed on Trademe/FB. Sure you can check the IMEI, proof purchase etc but sometimes they sell you the phone and report it as stolen = you now have a blacklisted expensive wifi device.
I wish I can get used to the size of S22 Ultra, the cameras on them are crazy good. I'm into photography and my Sony mirrorless camera kit worth about $5.5k It's my hobby and I like spending money on it. Maybe same with new technology for people. End of the day, you spend at least a few hours(almost a whole day) on your phone and easily get the usage time.

Why do people buy brand new cars when easily save few 1000s just slightly used, or even why spend more on a newer car with latest safety features when a 20 year old car with airbags will do the same thing?

        • I really don't buy a new computer when new processors come out. I'm still sporting a 9 year old CPU in my desktop which is overdue an upgrade. But the CPU isn't my problem, my last 3 phones the ram hasn't been enough, when I got then it was fine but over time android and apps gets more memory hungry I find my phone getting increasingly sluggish and having to restart apps.

Battery is definitely a concern after 2 years. My precious 3 phones have all seen significant degradation over time and by 3 years struggled to get through a day. One was a Moto z play that in its time was class leading battery and that still suffered a similar fate. Buying second hand last Feb phones is just an unknown how much the battery has been abused. A device like an S20 series that is being sold is clearly someone who is a power user and wants the latest each year, so chances are the battery has taken a hammering.

I tend to keep phones until the security updates stop, so for these S22 devices that's 5 years. $1500 is a lot but $300 a year for a few hours of use every day isn't that bad value wise. This is the most over ever spent in a new phone, my annoyance is really I'd probably be ok with lower specs, but long support life, wireless charging that I've invested heavily in and just a smoother experience I figured it was worth splashing. The 5 year support was a clincher, I've always been a fan of Google phones that are cheaper and get the updates but Google's decision to hold back the 5g in the pixel 6 on unsupported networks would mean I'm losing a good feature. If in spending $1000+ I want no compromise on the device specs and functionality.

  • Anyone able to outline how to get the 25 or 30% discount as I get to the point where it needs a code, or please PM me as I'd like to get an Ultra

Anyone considering amending or cancelling and placing a new order after the stock issues on accessories I wouldn't recommend it. I've got a major headache ongoing trying to just contact the store who cancelled my replacement order they told me to place without me knowing, all I want is to talk to them to explain what has happened but apparently no one can talk to that team, not even other Samsung staff to sort it out. They just don't respond to emails at all, cancel orders with no communications and have just cancelled charges saying there was payment issues, despite clearly being able to put a hold on the card so having the right payment details.

    • Who did you order from?

      • This was Samsung directly. I'm now arguing over their actions to see if they can place a like for like order as they took the money and are saying it's a payment issue despite the payment going through. Considering in over a week I've managed to get 2 responses and neither has really helped I'm not optimistic.

I've got a contingency order in with the Samsung kiosk so if this doesn't happen or takes much longer I'll settle for a worse deal to get the device in my hands. I can't wait around for them to reply eventually and the pre order bonuses will have dried up by then.

  • Anyone know when these are getting shipped? i ordered on the first day of pre orders.

    • Should have a date on your order page. Some on geekzone have them already. My order did say 2)3 and I think it's slipped to 10/3 at least now. I've still got no idea what's going on with my online order that's apparently cancelled but showing as being sent on 2/3.

Anyone got any ideas how or who I can escalate my issues with the Samsung estore up to? Not certain if it's something j can go to comcom with and them care at all.

Their customer service if you need to contact them is the worst I've ever experienced and talking to anyone at Samsung just hits a roadblock where they can only email the estore team who take days to respond if they bother to respond at all. I've tried calling, live chat, emails, going to a kiosk, Facebook and Twitter all to no success. Usually one of them would have gotten an actual response by now but I'm still not getting anywhere.
