Been looking for an SSD although I don't feel this is a great deal thought it may interest some. This is originally from Oz Bargain https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/670635

The Crucial CT1000P1SSD8 P1 1TB M.2 (2280) NVMe PCIe sold by Harris Technology but fulfilled by Amazon Australia is AU$99.90. It's currentlly is covered by Amazon's free shipping so total price to NZ including NZ GST is AU$104.44. Since Amazon Australia doesn't provide currency exchange for NZ I used midmarket + about 2.2% to account for credit card conversion and got ~$113.50. This doesn't include any Visa surcharge. The drive was/is? $10 cheaper on Ebay Australia but sort of irrelevant to us. As per OZB, the drive has gone out of stock several times, I expect it'll do it again but may come back in stock too. Harris seems to have some poor reviews elsewhere although their Amazon reviews aren't too bad. I would expect they'll probably be decent at dealing with DoAs on Amazon but as for later warranty issues in NZ, well…..

This is one of the very early QLC SSDs similar to the Intel 660p so it's not that fast but does have DRAM cache. Compared to a SATA SSD with DRAM and TLC (e.g. MX500) I expect it will still be significantly faster in raw speeds, and in most application will probably be better or the same; for writes until you fill the SLC cache. Not comparable to a better NVMe drive e.g. the Samsung 970 Evo Plus. And even one of those QLC Gen 4 PCI-express SSDs will likely be better or the same even on a Gen 3 system in pretty much all applications. Warrantied endurance for this drive is low, 200 TBW over the 5 years. You may want to read about the firmware bug mention in the Ozbargain thread. (To be clear, it's not suitable for a PS5.)

By way of comparison, the Seagate SN550 may have been $129 at PB Tech until it went out of stock I think quite quickly. (I didn't see this, just going by PriceSpy.) Note if looking at reviews, the SN550 changed the NAND chips used earlier this year and I expect drives you receive will be the new NAND chips, so make sure you look at reviews from after the switch. Still fair amount better in raw speeds even after the SLC cache is filled and they still kept the old endurance ratings so warrantied endurance is a lot better than the P1. The Kingston NV1 which is DRAMless and QLC was $139 until the past midnight at Computer Lounge and has slightly better endurace.

The Seagate Q1 1TB which is QLC but DRAMless and SATA was recently on sale at Computer Lounge for $100. The 1TB MX500 was $130 in early November at PBTech but recently was $149. It was available (currently OOS) for ~$138 shipped from Amazon, I expect it'll be back in stock soon. The 1TB 660p was ~AU$115 with NZ GST a few days ago also from Harris Technology but I think this wasn't covered by free shipping.

If you're looking for something larger, unfortunately currently 2TB NVMe drives on Amazon Australia seem expensive. Frankly best deal I came across was the 970 Evo Plus for $275 in mid December according to CamelCamelCamel. But there have been some decent deals on the other Australian sites from other sellers (mostly the P1 2TB) over boxing day so maybe these will eventually make it to Amazon. The P1 is discontinued so I'm not sure if these will eventually end but SSD prices have been trending downwards and I've seen predictions NAND prices will be 10% lower in Q1 2022.

  • How would warranty work on this if there was any?

    • +1

Postage to AU aint to bad i know seagate forces you to send to to asia

      • Australia operates like NZ though so in theory Harris Technology should deal with you and can't just fob you off on Samsung. One advantage compared to the US there the norm is the manufacturer is the one who deals with warranties. (Well mostly an advantage when you're buying Amazon Australia supplied.)

I expired the deal as Harris Technology raised the price before they went out of stock (was 3 left when I saw it). Not sure if they'll be at the $99 price when they get more stock or the $113. Seems to be a popular deal on OzBargain, was posted there and died looks like within minutes from the comments https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/674931.
