First time I've bought from Amazon AU.

Was looking for a pair of 1TB 860/870 EVOs, which were going to run me about $450 both locally or internationally.

Then saw the MX500s, which are an older 3D TLC drive with DRAM for $124AUD shipped. Assumed I'd have to add GST and there was no point but was nicely surprised to see the Amazon AU price includes GST.

Final price was $137.5NZD ($275 total vs $450) each shipped which puts them on par with DRAMless drive pricing.

Cheapest is $160 each on promo in NZ plus ship. But this is simultaneously an "it's cheaper than retail competition" but also an "it's cheaper than product competition".

Would recommend if you can't use NVMe for whatever reason.

Cheapest they've been in NZ was the beginning of last month according to pricespy - $129.00 (03/11/2021). The were also $138 on 28/11. I'd imagine they're going to go on sale again soon at some point. Probably a lot easier than having to deal with AU warranties..

Not trying to knock you down or anything, just saying for anyone's consideration.

    • Yes, I bought one for $129 from PB on their black friday sale. I got the 500gb a few years back for my laptop and they're pretty good value for money.

    • Yeah said the same thing a few days ago, can't be sure but suspect they'll be at least $138 sometime between now and boxing day (inclusive) on PB Tech

      • Sadly I was wrong, it's NZ$148.99 on boxing day sales, only sale they've had. Possibly worseing NZD exchange rate (to USD) hasn't helped. For me still worth paying the ~$10 extra and getting it locally given the possibly vagaries of Amazon warranty support. While SSD death with TBW besides DOA/semi DOA is maybe not that uncommond does happen. And while I Know some people have had good long term support from Amazon, as an irregular customer I'm not certain if mine will be so great. To be fair, one advantage with Amazon Australia is Amazon is expected to provide warranty support there. Amazon US tends to be more of a problem given the norms there are for direct support from the manufacturer after a short period. (I know someone who had a USB hub break within the warranty period, the manufacturer was fine with replacing it but having it replaced in NZ was the issue.)

  • These are good drives. I have a couple of 1Tb and they are really quick with a good TBW profile. Similar to Samsung IMHO and very cost effective.

  • anybody know of any 1tb ssd drives under $100 don't care about speed just going to use it in my gaming laptop to install a couple of games on and i don't use the laptop much
