    I have both devices. The Shield Pro much more powerful and snappier than the new Chromecast. That being said, unless you're using the Shield for Nvidia's cloud gaming or playing large movie files over a NAS or something, I'd go with the Chromecast.

    If my Shield shat the bed, I'd replace it with another Chromecast. It's all you need if you're just streaming and it's a third of the price.

    If you got a stash of high bit rate videos; cough cough, then NVIDIA Shield is the one to go for. Google TV less powerful than Shield, but very convenient.

      Yep, I have some large movie files that the google tv just could not play. The nvidia shield can play everything I have tried. It just has the best codec support out of the available options. Never seems to transcode off plex ever.

        That is good to know, I was contemplating to buy Shield Pro a while ago for playing high bit rate(4k HDR, Atmos/DTS:X blah blah) movies. That time it costed around 400ish, in the end I bought Zidoo Z9s. Cannot fault it. Still works fine. Will wait till the next version of Shield(current one is from 2019) is out.

          @Banto: Yep its the high bitrate audio with Atmos that I had the biggest issues with for plex on the tv plex, google tv plex and no issues at all on the nvidia shield pro.

      US. Did the old bendy bend on the pins. It does have a removable module for the pin interface, will try track down the nz one

    Did you use their prepay option for shipping and custom fees or the other handle yourself one? If you used the other one, did you have to pay DHL anything for clearing customs/GST?

  I have several Google TV devices, and the Shield is definitely the fastest and most updated.
  One downside is that they can't get some NZ only apps like the Freeview app without hacking around/sideloading. This is the same as with the Mi Box.
  If your looking for a cheaper option then SmartVU is one of the best options, it has all the local apps.

    Sorry but smartvu was super unresponsive and that was the reason why I paid $460 to buy Nvidia shield pro brand new from Noel Leeming. Only device that can maybe rival it is apple tv 4k but even then it's not as versatile as the Shield.
