So Aioli Fries + a Soda are $10.60. So consider it like adding Fries & Soda to your Burger Purchase for $2.60.

Chips and a drink for !10.60!(5 litres of drink and 3kg of chips at the supermarket), what an utter joke, burgers are out of control these days, crappy little fast food burger joints and vans selling a burger and chips for the price of a meal in a restaurant

    • Burger inflation. Another thing to add to the list of things becoming more expensive than they should be. Wonder why people are charging so much for little bits of fries

      • Yep data out last week about record high inflation. Reason to up prices.

    • +1

Margins must be sky-high for chips, they cost next to nothing to buy frozen, yet you'd be hard pressed to find a portion available for less than $4 at a burger place, cafe or similar

      • +1

Like buying a beer at a restaurant.

      • +2

People keep buying it so they can justify doing it, then the meat prices go up as well as minimum wage and they increase it again because 'costs have gone up'

      • Yea fish and chip shops are they only ones that seem to still be operating on low profit margins, though tbh idk how they survive

        • They live in/above the shop, they have family help out in the family business.
They will still have their profit items, Chinese meals etc.
Chips have gotten more expensive in fish and chip shops, really noticed the difference moving from south island to north island.

          • @Foodie: Yea, I noticed the fish seems to be wafer thin these days, literally as thin as a wafer from some places, but they pad it out with batter so it seems nice and thick

            • @ognsoign: If you in Wellington, check out tori st fish and chips. Not cheapest meal but decent portions, they batter everything as you order

    • Maybe it helps them break even after all the birthday burgers they give away. Also, their aioli is very nice.
There's cheaper burger joints and there's more expensive burger joints, something for everyone. There's only a few things I miss after leaving Wellington, BurgerFuel is one of them.

      • IMO, most if not all of the reputable Welly burger joints are better than BF.

Obviously, some of these are specialist places i.e. Lucky have a small menu, Soul Shack focus on fried chicken burgers, but the reviews and visiting them tell the story.

Funnily enough, these places are also cheaper for the same quantity of food, and much more so if you want sides as well.

Again, whilst offering what is widely considered a superior product.

        • Yeah BF don't do a fried chicken burger so I wouldn't compare it to those. I've found a few great chicken burgers in Dunedin, one place does the different spice levels, it's very similar to Soul Shack.
We used to get BF once a month or so, their special burgers and specials were normally appearling, and of course the free birthday burger. Their hamburgini was also a great option for my wee boy.
