A cheap way to get Spark VoLTE if you're in an RCG VoLTE-only area.

Listed as supported by Spark VoLTE and the AU variant should be the same as the NZ variant.

Nokia 3.4 has a nice Snapdragon 460 chip which has better performance than other Spark phones in the price bracket.

Snapdragon 460 has A73 and A53 cores on an 11nm Samsung process. That's amazing for a budget phone!! A53 only phones are slower than turtles.

Other phones in this price bracket from Spark's own site (in NZD)

Samsung Galaxy A02s - $199 - yes VoLTE
(Much slower SD 450 chip with A53 cores only, big oof)
Nokia G20 - $279 - yes VoLTE
(Much slower MediaTek Helio G35 with A53 cores only, very big oof)
Samsung Galaxy A12 - $299 - yes VoLTE
(Much slower MediaTek Helio G35 with A53 cores only, very big oof)
Oppo A5 2020 - $299 - yes VoLTE
(Chinese phone, more expensive but actually is slightly faster than SD 460 and has A73/A53 cores, not bad)

Obligatory note: Yes it has been about $10 AUD cheaper in the past, but you couldn't actually get it shipped to NZ and no idea how long the $3 shipping will go on for etc.

TBH if you are spending this much effort risking not having proper warranty importing a phone. You might as well get the Poco m3 or something with snapdragon 6 series.

    • Poco m3 won't have Spark VoLTE support which can make a difference in a VoLTE only area.

      • I don't think that will affect a lot of people's decision making. Never had any issue with voice call quality in the first place.

        • The issue is voice call connectivity not quality in rural not urban coverage areas.

          • @Peter Wyngarde: Does that have anything to do with volte? If you can't get a stable 3G voice connection what are the chances you will get a good 3/4G data connection for volte to work?

The only solution sounds like wifi calling which is a completely different technology.

have the Oppo A5 2020 and its pretty good

Anything using snapdragon 600 sereis with adreno 610/630 is pretty good these days for the budgets end, if you go lower than expecte jittery and poor preformance.

I have the A5 and it's a good phone for what I need. You can pick up the A52 for $249 from Leemings or $248 from WHS with free shipping, and it has a full hd screen instead of the 720p screen that the A5 and this Nokia both have.

You get a free 2degrees or TWH simcard as well

  • How does this compare with the older Nokia 6.1?

And would this work on Spark NZ network?
