  • How does this compare to the recent Dell deals?

    • +1

I got the dell one, with a monitor, 2 keyboards, 2 mice, and a headset for $600 more.
Someone sold the Monitor on FB Market for $600 on its own.

But if you missed out and are desperate for a GPU this might be a better way to acquire it, just know that it's gonna be bottom tier 3080 most likely.

    • The previous aurora r12 dell deal is better on paper. It's only $400 more with 2 keyboards, 2 mice, a headset and a monitor. Plus it's got a better PSU at 1000w, better CPU cooling with the liquid cooler, slightly better CPU with the 11th gen intel and an extra 2TB HDD.

      • I got it, after one of the codes stopped working sadly so ~$3,810.17

        but still worth it.

There's some people dropping out of crypto as you can see some dribbles coming in on trademe but it'll still be quite a while.
And will get worse again if crypto goes up again

        • Heard on level one with Wendell that china's announced they will crack down on mining coin with a ban.
Unsure if they will follow through but might ease availability in future.

      • I can't see any mention but looking at the photo this appears to have liquid cpu cooler as well.

        • I'm about 90% certain it does. The older 30L models had them and you can definitely see it in the photos on the HP website. I think it's mentioned on some other retail sites as well.

  • I want this.. but 3k argh

You can get an extra 3% ($97) cashback via Shoprewards too :) https://shoprewards.co.nz/retailer/themarket-nz

  • Thanks, bought one.

  • Saw this in store and it really does look awesome. Nice case layout, clear screen and led components.

Nice find and price if you're after something like this.

  • This is very tempting.

As someone said, the Dell one is (was?) better on paper, but considering the issues they are currently having with the R12 (severely bottlenecked RAM due to older motherboard not suited for the 11th Gen Intel which may or may not be updated via. BIOS, the heat issues), the components being proprietary (no easy way of swapping out the PSU or m/board into a different case), and the personal opinion that the Alienware tower is pretty fugly - it makes the Omen start to look good.

While the parts under the hood seem to be generic, at least they're a seemingly standard form factor.

The Hard Drive is only 1TB, but it is SSD (Dell was only 512GB SD, but included a 2TB mechanical drive) - but eh, for me it's not a deal breaker.

Any hassles, you have a local retailer - Noel's.

Sure, you don't get the mouse/keyboard or monitor, but those are pretty average anyway, and once you go through the hassle of selling them, you might only be $200 better off in the pocket.

    • And you might get it faster …. Its nearly been a month since those orders and Dell won't be shipping until another month from now 😢

      • hmm interesting..

      • Where did you get this information? I placed an order on the 6th May from Dell, yet to be sent.

        • If you log into your account it says expected shipping date under orders.

          • -1

@Robbert: It's the same shipping date as originally listed when I purchased it. From how I see cocopops worded his statement, it sounds like it would be delayed for a further "month" from this date expected date?

            • -1

@dekodE: Read what I wrote.. I said one month from now. I ordered early May, it has been a month, delivery date is 1 month from now.

              • @cocopops: I ordered the same an similar date as your cocopops - Early may. My shipping ETA is still the same as Robberts - 19th June. (No change at all or further delays have been updated on my dell order.

        • I ordered same date and expected shipping is 19th June

          • -1

@Robbert: You must have ordered on the original deal before may? My delivery is in July …so at least 2 months.

            • -1

@cocopops: That's the shipping date. Expected delivery is early July

              • @Robbert: Any update on shipping? I see dell has run out of 3080. (My status hasn’t changed since order was placed)

                • @Seighart: I canceled my order. Got an email saying 18th November. Sounds like some people have been told August. I don't trust that dell actually knows when they will be able to ship.

                • @Seighart: I just looked at the oz bargin thread and can confirm dell have no idea. One user was still being told July even though most others had been updated to November but this morning I see he just also got told November. I will never buy from dell again.

                  • @Robbert: Damn.. should have got this deal instead..

                    • @Seighart: I did but from noel leeming so cost me alot more as they took it off market I started having doubts about dell so grabbed one. Runs alright but no airflow in case and not really upgradable but at least I got a 3080.

                      • @Robbert: Good stuff. Can always upgrade the case (or case fan) I think the gpu heat sink and cooler is better and probably quieter than dell’s ver

      • Dell just delayed my R10 order until August, so 3 month wait.

    • Sounds like Dell actually fixed the ram bottleneck issue.
      https://www.reddit.com/r/Alienware/comments/neji6q/update_au…

But overheating is an issue due to poor build quality and sounds like people are having to install new case fans and thermal paste on the GPU to avoid thermal throttling.

Another difference I noticed is the PSU is a 1000W in the R12 vs the 750W in the Omen, not sure what the $ value difference is on that though.

Omen case and components looks easier to work with if you want to make changes too.

Yer the two month versus two days shipping really made this deal shine from the dell one. I stuck with the DELL deal although I was tempted to cancel and get this. Seems I waited that long now I can't give up hope. Note it seems you can't just grab any RAM for an upgrade simliar to dell as HP also run special timing or whatever. I am sure a bit of research would get around this though.

  • +2

just brought this, i held off on buying the dell/alienware deal after doing research but this one is much better and more like a custom made PC that you can easily upgrade yourself with extra parts, which makes it a better deal imo even though it doesn't come with all the extras like monitor/mouse/headset/keyboard which weren't the best either

  • looks like i purchased just in time, sold out! maybe i got the last lol

    • +1

I think they may have decided to remove it from The Market. You can still buy it from Noel's website.

      • Yep the extra 10% off was to much I suspect.

  • my computer arrived 2 days after ordering and it's a beauty, runs extremely fast everything is near instant, about 2 seconds to boot into windows, the one downside is they only take a specific type of ram but you can find that same ram on Ebay currently for even cheaper, got 2 sticks shipped to me for $100 usd to add another 16gb of ram to the PC, the rgb lighting and everything in the case looks really slick, happy with my purchase. :)
