Get Referred to Flick Electric and Receive a $100 Credit

70

Flick Electric is offering a $100 credit if you join one of their plans and enter your referral's email address in the process. Both you and the referral will receive the $100 credit.

Use the random referral feature of cheapies.nz and follow the instructions.

Flick is constantly among the cheapest energy providers in New Zealand (see their Fixie and Freestyle plans). If you have been wanting to switch, now it's a great time. These bonus offers do not come around very often - the last one was in August 2019.

The offer expires on Sunday 28 February 2021.

How to enter the referral: To get your $100 power credit secured (and $100 power credit for your mate, too!) then just pop your friend’s email into the promo code section when you join Flick. Easy as! - the promo code (email address) can be entered on the Payment Page.

  • Anyone online with a referral?

      Please use the random referral function to receive a valid email as a referral.

    Can anyone vouch for them? Noticed they've received a lot of flack in the past for the high wholesale rate being passed on while others stay on a fixed rate.

    • +1

      They used to only have a spot price only plan which caused a lot of grief when the wholesale market price skyrocketed during peak time.

      Their new fixie plan was designed to address that.

    • +1

      I'm on the Fixie plan and cannot find a cheaper provider anywhere else (Wellington). Plus a bonus, they don't charge a fixed daily rate for their Low Usage Plan, pretty much any other provider does charge approx 30 cents a day.

      • They charge the daily rate at my address @34.5c (Auckland)

    Use the random referral function, don't post your email address here, it is against Cheapies T&C!

  • Can someone explain how the random referral function works for me please? Looking to sign up

    • Look at "REFERRAL LINKS" below the post, click either the post author's username or random, it will prompt with a message, ask for their referral code which in this instance is an email address, they'll receive the message and respond to it.

      You have to have messages enabled in order to use this feature.

      • Thank you. Figured that was it but wanted to make sure - didn't have the setting enabled for messages though, cheers for the heads up.

  • Anyone compared to electric kiwi? Looks like prices are per Kwh prices are higher and doesnt offer free hour of power.

    • +1

      Make sure you are comparing GST inclusive prices.

    • I think that’s true.

    • It's higher on peak, but much lower off. So it sort of depends when you are using your power.

  • Would Flick be suitable for a household who uses 1250kWh/month (in Autumn and Summer)? I am wondering if other large households have ended up paying more with the peak time charges.

      I really don't like the pay market rate for electricity companies since I don't want to have to worry about having a large bill because I wanted to do something energy intensive while power prices were peaking. But everyone's different. So sorry I can't help with that part of your question, but flick energy says on their platform that the freestyle is currently at high point, so before you consider the fixie, I'd recommend shopping around
      So I calculated your usage for contact energy vs flick fixed rates as a way to show you should look around and compare companies with your usage.

      The rates used are for my address, both excluding GST, it is best to check the rates for your address to better compare.

      Rates:

      Contact energy
      99.9c / day
      15.2c / kwh

      Flick
      30c / day
      Summer - 18.41c / kwh
      Winter - 21.04c / kwh

      Contact energy
      99.9 x 30 = 2997c
      15.2 x 1250 = 19000c
      Total = 21997c = $219.97 /month

      Flick Summer
      30 x 30 = 900c
      18.41 x 1250 = 23012.5c
      Total = 23912.5c = $239.125 /month

      Flick Winter
      30 x 30 = 900c
      21.04 x 1250 = 26300c
      Total = 26900c = $269 /month

      • As you can see this is between a $20 to $50 before GST saving per month
      • Both have $100 refer credit
      • I would recommend comparing across many companies since you are a heavy user like myself
  • Okay Dumb question: I'm wanting to join flick and got a referral code- thanks to a Cheapies Mate— But at which stage I need to enter that referral code? Is it at payment instructions, Promo Code? Didn't want to sign up all the way, only to be told by them that I should have entered the referral at any previous step. Appreciate any help!!

      I think you are correct.

    • Hi, it’s on the payment screen. You enter the referral email address in the ‘promo’ section.
