    Decent price.

Wish my reusable masks would hurry up and arrive. I'm probably 1000 back in the queue.

  • ePacket deliveries from China are currently 2-3 weeks. If you are OK with the wait then 100 similar masks are $10-15 delivered on aliexpress.

  • Not bad.

  • Wow thank you, they have already assigned my shipping label. Much faster than offtheback are going to be!

  • Is this site legit? No info about them anywhere

      Found this on NewsHub

"The Countdown online pharmacy sold the 'Bactive Protective Face Mask' 50-pack for $54.99: $1.10 per mask.

Ministry of Health supplier Zuru Edge, a consumer business of Zuru, has launched a new website, Bactive.co, from which a 50-pack of single use face masks cost $34.99 (70c per mask), including shipping. Dick Smith has a wide selection of disposable and reusable masks, which can be bought online from $14.95 for a 10-pack ($1.50 per mask).

PriceSpy country manager Liisa Matinvesi-Bassett, said 30-day search data revealed the five most popular face masks were all sold through Mitre 10. The most popular household mask was the '3M Household Cleanser Odour respirator' for $12 (stores may have limited stock)."

      • Thanks, will get some

Yes very legit. During the first lockdown the owners of Zuru (the Mowbray siblings) spearheaded bringing in PPE straight from China on chartered flights to help the government. Great that the are leveraging their supply chain to help us out.

Yes, please don't give Countdown your money, they're selling these same ones (that MoH released to them) for $55.

    • +1

how does that work. tax payers buy it… gives it to countdown… and countdown puts a ripoff price and sell it back to tax payers?

      • You got. Excellent service they’re providing. Much like consultants and brokers.

Yeap. Shop local and support local they said. So they gave all the masks to the Aussie supermarket. Fun fact. Countdown have also admitted that they have exported their stock.
So nz tax payers subsidizing our oz bargain friends too

        • Realistically, if you wanted to ensure access to the general public including during level 4, you either had to use to Foodstuffs or Countdown/Progressive to distribute them. Trying to coordinate distribution to fruit and veges shops, Asian groceries etc seems a disaster, and even worse for the tax payer. And worse, no matter how well you do, you'd probably ensure a significant chunk of the country misses out I don't know if they offered them to Foodstuffs but they felt they had managed to source enough by themselves, or the government simply chose Countdown since Countdown has more large stores and/or a distribution network better able to cope, but it's the reality of retail in NZ. I did see one report suggesting that Countdown asked for them rather then the government simply offered so it's possible Foodstuffs simply never asked, perhaps again because they felt they had been able to source supplies by themselves.

Also who said they "gave" (as in for free) it to Countdown? Reports suggest they were charged $1.03 per mask https://www.stuff.co.nz/business/122492845/pricey-face-masks… , the average price for a mask in April. This works out to be $51.50 for 50 and frankly with overheads suggest their profit on these is minimal or non existent (which is also what they said). To be fair, I'm not sure if that average price includes all the government overheads so possibly there was still some minor subsidy, but it's not like the governments just gave the masks for free as some of the other replies seem to suggest.

The exporting these masks sounds more questionable. Then again, I know there were loads and loads of these in my local store a few weeks ago with I'm fairly sure very few sales until of course the government started to suggest people wear masks leading to a run on them followed soon after by the discovery of community transmission which made things even worse.

If no one is buying them, I guess it's a valid question whether the government providing them at cost implied Countdown should keep them forever. A key issue may be whether Countdown approached the government before hand and told them they no longer wanted them and offered them back. If they did and the government didn't want them back either, I can sort of see their PoV. Especially since the average price must be going down and down. So they're not only keeping stock that isn't moving, they're keeping stock that was bought at an expensive price and which they can now buy a lot cheaper. And the longer they keep it, the lower the current value goes. Better to sell some while it's still worth a bit, and buy more when you need it and the price is lower. And further to that IMO a limit of one box of 50 per customer when there is a run is not unreasonable.

So probably the other key question is, does Countdown still have enough stock to cope with demand within their limits before they receive more stock from their commercial suppliers? If they do and also offered them back to the government first, then what they did IMO no longer seems particularly unreasonable.

  • thanks really good price have ordered was nearly going to buy at countdown this big saving on same mask.

  • How long is shipping for these mask? are they local stock or need to be sent here from another country?

    • Local stock. Order and it will ship the same business day or next. This is one of the Ministry of Health's suppliers.

Ordered these at 3PM and got a notification to say they were on their way half an hour later. I was pretty quick off the mark in ordering them, but it seems like they're pretty quick to fulfill orders.

  • Excellent post, have just ordered mine and have the confirmation email :)

  • ordered late thursday 5pm and just recieved my order this morning, very quick delivery.thanks itsmiffy for this deal.

  • Out of curiosity, why are people getting disposable masks instead of reusable masks + filter? In the short run it's fine, but after 50 rounds …
Is it because these particular masks have a 98% resistance rating?
