This is a great deal isnt it ?

    • +1

It's an ok deal but I wouldn't buy. With the newly released AMD Ryzen 4000 series laptops I'd be looking @ the ASUS TUF Gaming A15 GTX1660ti for ~$1800 or RTX2060 model for ~$2200.

      • Can you link this ? 1800 for the Asus one

        • +2

Made a typo, the $1800 one was for the 1650ti which you don't want.

          PBTech has the "ASUS Tuf A15 GTX1660ti" for $2047 & RTX2060 for $2259
Justlaptops has the "ASUS TUF FA506 RTX2060" for $2089

          • @[Deactivated]: CHeers - Did see the pb tech one but will look at the Justlaptops one.

@HappyChipMonk: Keep an eye on Q-Bay weekend specials.

PB Tech ASUS TUF Gaming A15 TUF506 for $1879

              • @[Deactivated]: Do you think that's a good deal? Same model on Amazon goes for ~$1600 NZD ($999 usd)

                https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0865RZR9S/ref=twister_B086TMWGXY?…

I have trawled Noel Leeming, Harvey Norman, PB Tech, Dell, and the one you've linked does seem to be the best option - but can't tell if it's a special price for that model or not. No history on pricespy.

Any other recommendations for similar specs at all to compare to?

                • +1

@joshtnz: Depends on whether $1600 includes postage & GST/Import Duties. If it does & you are willing to take a $279 gamble then go for it, just keep in mind no warranty & possible postage delay due to covid19.

As for other recommendations $1600-$2000 not really, the GTX1650 I can't recommend & AMD GPU I have no experience with. For a 1660ti with AMD ryzen4000 or Intel i7-9750h you are looking @2000-$2300 normally so anything below $1900 is a fab deal. Otherwise keep an eye on trademe for any 1660ti/2060 models.

  • Is there any difference between 2x8gb ram and just 16gb ram?

    • +1

Big difference for gaming & productivity, dual channel(x2) is always preferred. It will vary b/w laptops but some laptops like my asus strix shows 25-40fps improvement when I swapped the 16gb for 2x8gb.

      • Interesting… Thanks

      • that seems a bit high improvement compared to single channel? was the new ram faster or something?

        • Whether it's the Asus Strix range or the Strix G specifically the fps diff is night & day. Check out "Bob Of All Trades" review to see the diff, he did upgrade to the best ram but even so, when Overwatch jumps by 100fps b/w single vs dual channel ram…happy days. I play slightly older puzzle games Quern, Talos etc…& they show significant FPS jumps switching to dual.

          • @[Deactivated]: wow you learn something new everyday… would have thought a few at most 10 fps difference. thats insane - this stuff was things you would need to consider 10 years ago… and it still is!!

      • Yeah don't believe that for a second. https://beebom.com/single-channel-vs-dual-channel-memory/

  • Can you do a deal for sub 1000-1500 13/14 inch laptops
