Be careful with Sharesies. My wife got charged almost 14% higher for a share purchase , and despite asking for an explanation, no explanation has been forthcoming for 3 days now. Basically got charged about $1.72 for a share that, at it's peak, was priced at $1.56 or less. I am hoping this pub;lic post will get us an explanation from them finally! I will keep you folks informed.

    • I have used their platform also made money , but now I will be moving to us securities via stake and TD Ameritrade , (sharesies will also launch us securities later) I also had a few similar situation but that were for low cap stocks , and nzx is also not good they have many many glitches and they had many past few days , examples trades were slow and even stopped nzx said we now they have 4 times the volume then before and we now we trade stocks in one day what we used to in a week just because of sharesies ,— I think for small cap and medium cap stocks, send a limit order unless large cap onces like A2 milk , f & p etc this as there is hardly any liquidity in NZ market , except a few stocks , stocks which you hold on small and medium cap also take time to clear ,plus they also have fractional shares, also note the sharesies quotes are 20 mins delayed ,

    • I’m new to trading shares and sharesies, but from what I gather you will never buy at the price sharesies shows you as mentioned it’s price not live. That’s if you are doing market price. Also the trades can be delayed so when you make the order the trade may happen later on at a price that reflects the price at the time. I notice their charts don’t show the same price history like other sites, my first trade share prices match up with the time and date they were done.

    • Almost 24 hours after my post, still no response from Sharesies. WE will be taking the complaint to their financial dispute resolution provider, FSCL. It does not make any sense, that we get charged $1.72 for a share that has not gotten higher than $1.52.

      • I don’t think sharesies has any representation on this website or is monitoring any feedback on this site either

  • I just use ASB Securities. Pretty happy with ASB

    • Just targeting a different audience. Cheapest ASB securities broker fee is $15 for up to $1000 ($30 on trades above this), for that fee you can buy $3000 worth through Sharesies (or $6000 break-even point on Sharesies). So basically if you're investing less than $6000 per 1 transaction, Sharesies is cheaper. People mention the sub fee of $30/year, so say even if you only invest once per fortnight that's $1.15 extra per trade so break-even point only reduces down to $2770 (below which it is cheaper to buy through Sharesies).

And if you are investing into multiple companies, Sharesies gets much much cheaper.

      • Ah right I see. I've been seeing a lot of Sharesies links recently but now that makes sense because I've just been doing $10k trades on one company

  • I have recently used Sharesies and overall it's not that bad when they charge you a small amount for trading shares. I usually buy shares at set price not market price which would give more assurence without surprise.

  • SAaid invalid or expired when I tried today
