  • Those look like very good deals to me - unless I am missing something?

For me at least, I am currently with 2Degrees on the $30 / month (pay monthly as they call it) plan - I am out of contract, so just month to month now.

I get unlimited txts, 300 carryover mins per month (although I think that is now unlimited - not sure if just during the Covid-19 lockdown and if so, when it goes back to 300 mins), and 2.5GB of carryover data per month.

I hardly ever get anywhere close to those, so I was thinking of moving to either 2Degrees or Skinny prepay, but it looks like the Kogan deal is even better than I have currently for much lower cost (per month)?

    Kogan seem to be offering:

    Unlimited txts
    Unlimited calls
Data = 1.5GB per 30 days / 18GB for the year - More than I have used in the last 12 months so looks good to me.
Cost for that is $163.03 for 365 days = $13.58 per month (average) or $13.40 per 30 days

Kogan appeaer to use the Vodafone network, which is (effectively) the same as 2Degrees (i believe if I am out of range of a 2Degrees tower, they switch to Vodafone, but I don't pay any roaming charges for that).

I very occasionally tether to my mobile (last time was probably six months ago, but when I need to, it is very convenient) - 2Degrees have never seemed to have any issue with that, but not sure if Kogan allows it or not?

I believe you also have to acquire a Kogan SIM (obviously) - not sure if there is any additional charge for that, or it just comes as part of the deal when you pay the $163.03 up front?

Looks like I would be paying less than half what I am now, albeit paying the year up front - or have I missed something?

    Alan.

Youre understanding is all correct. Theyll send you the SIM for free. If your willing to stump up the cash, you get an exceptionally good deal

depends on your usage, another option discovered from cheapies is
      2d prepay plan,

      3 months $70+ 9 months $10 worked out 300 a year, you have $25 a month roughly 6.3GB a month.
      2 months $70+10 months $10 worked out 240 a year, you have $20 a month roughly 4.2GB a month.
      …and etc.

you can adjust that $70 plan to find other solutions.

      • :)

      • FYI, this is using the carryover data 'hack'. Search for the other Kogan post (in Sept 2019 ish) it will explain all this.

  • I bought the 12 month deal - I'm loving the heaps of data. I was on 2 degrees before this and I felt that was quicker, but the lack of data was irritating. Also I can hotspot all my devices etc. All up I'd say it's a good deal - although now with Covid-19 I'm not coming anywhere near my data usage

    • oh yeah you have to buy the sim dont remember if it was $2 or $4

  • Ive been with Kogan Mobile 2 years in Aus before moving to NZ and have had Kogan here since September ish (when they first came out). It is cheap, no frills, and does exactly what it says. I have the large plan and always have lots left over. I travel to and from Welly/Auckland and have never had an issue that I can remember. Also tested in CHC - speeds and coverage have been good for majority of it ; cant think of a reason to fault them. Both the Mrs and I are on KM and likely to stay on!
