This will be their deal for the foreseeable future.

    • Not really a deal then, just how they operate. Surprised it got voted up.

      • +1

If government initiatives can be posted and voted up then why not this?

        • I don't think government initiatives should be posted either :P
There's hundreds of stores offering free shipping as part of their service, it's nothing special. Chemist Warehouse have had their site up with this deal since last year as well, so it's not even new.

@davew: "Chemist Warehouse now have an online store"

I wasn't aware that they sold online and it was only in-store Auckland or something.

      • +6

Technically correct - not a deal - but helps educate people that didn't know they had free shipping >= $50.
The people that are voting up are the people that are now ordering with free shipping, that otherwise wouldn't have.

https://pakurangapharmacy.co.nz/ do free shipping in New Zealand no minimum purchase amount.

Just compared the prices of Deep Heat products between Pakuranga Pharmacy and Chemist Warehouse. Chemist Warehouse is way cheaper.

      • +3

Seems to depend on the product, I had a look at three and one was cheaper, one was about the same and one was more expensive. That puts in the worth a look category, of course any small order under say $30 is likely going to be cheaper with the free shipping at this place.

        • Yep, Chemist Warehouse is not always the cheapest on everything.

          • +3

@akrotohur: Definitely, Chemist Warehouse promote themselves as being cheap but comparing many items they are just the same inflated prices as other NZ stores. Just quickly comparing our regular toiletry items with PaknSave (other stores may be cheaper)…

            Dove Deodorant 250ml Chemist Warehouse - $6.99 PaknSave - $5.00
            Chapstick SPF15 Chemist Warehouse - $4.99 PaknSave - $2.99
            Berocca 45pk Chemist Warehouse - $22.99 PaknSave - $19.99
            Optrex 10ml Chemist Warehouse - $7.99 PaknSave - $6.99
            Purex 6 Pack Chemist Warehouse - $5.99 PaknSave - $4.99

So all Chemist Warehouse are is another store only worth a visit for the promotions and deals.

Chemist Warehouse do price beat if prompted "if you find a cheaper price on the same item stocked at another New Zealand Retail Store, we will match it and give you 10% off the difference" but from experience at the Albany store it's a hassle and done begrudgingly at best. Does anyone know if they price beat multiple items i.e. would they sell me 5 Doves for just $4.50 each?

            • +2

@netwalk: Definitely worth shopping around. I think we can all agree thou that compared to the normal ripoff traditional pharmacies - these are all good options.

              For example

              Life Pharmacy - contact lens solutions - 2 x 240ml - $25.99 (free shipping over $100)
              https://www.lifepharmacy.co.nz/home/shop-by-category/persona…

Chemist Warehouse - same thing but 3 bottles! - $16.99 (free shipping over $50)
              https://www.chemistwarehouse.co.nz/buy/76188/complete-easy-r…

Thats quite a big difference. $10 less for 1/3rd more product and lower bar for shipping.

I have been desperate in the past and had to buy this from a suburban pharmacy and it was $39.99! So this new competition is a great thing.

@netwalk: Re: price beat - only applies to a maximum quantity of three of each product you're price matching (https://www.chemistwarehouse.co.nz/AboutUs/faq)

And if it's the "difference", with the Dove example - that would be 10% of the $1.99 difference i.e. $0.199 reduction on the $5 amount so you'll pay $4.80 for a maximum of three Doves.

              • +1

@cappylemmy: Thanks for taking the time to find that out. 3 items I guess is fair however that "10% of the difference" is a little sneaky. Most Price Guarantees I know of (e.g. Bunnings and Mitre10) work in the way I thought.

      • Try comparing to PaknSave!

        CW Deep Heat 100g $9.99 PnS $8.49

See post above for more example of how poor value Chemist Warehouse can be. You have to shop around for everything!

Thanks! Even though chemist warehouse may be cheaper for some products, Pakuranga Pharmacy stock products that aren’t available at the chemist warehouse.

  • I don't know if they're owned by the same company but Dominion Road Pharmacy also have free shipping and the prices are the same as Pakuranga Pharmacy for a lot of products. https://dominionroadpharmacy.co.nz/

Being the cheapie that I am I simply posted this as I had just found out that chemist warehouse sell online. I assumed other cheapies may not know.
As per usual cross check prices with other businesses.

      You’re right, I didn’t know! I’ll use this in the future : )

Its new, i checked a while back and their website just pointed to Australia and said you couldnt ship to NZ - so its worth pointing out to people.

Thanks for posting the deal. It's certainly news to me. Having moved from Aus recently and not living in Auckland, this is good news to get certain things!

  • Good post for me too, I have just heard they are opening a store in Christchurch so interested to be able to look online before they get here. I love the bargain chemist we already have which I believe is NZ owned- but who knows who owns what
