They've been doing this for the past 3 years at least. You need to be on a contract with them and their prices suck. I've been with them and got a TV. Great support but otherwise not worth it. Wouldnt necessarily call this a Cheapies deal.

Power is so expensive, Internet is so expensive from them too. Not worth it. Its all hidden in the monthly charges and the contract.

It's not decent, worst thing you can do, friends don't let friends sign up for Trustpower.

These are really quite terrible deals. The TV they are "giving away" is $899 at PB Tech (same model) - imagine how much they are paying for it buying in bulk etc.

The price difference for the internet alone is $550 over vs my current provider (Skinny) over 2 years - and the electricity is about 9c higher per KWH compared to Electric Kiwi, so in my case around $90 a month more - and that excludes the hour of power where we save quite a chunk by using our spa on a timer and dryer at that time etc - so I would guess probably another 5c a KWH averaged out. So lets say $120 a month

Electric Kiwi also give a $50 credit to join and referral credits. Its great if you use the hour of power well, if cant be bothered there are other even cheaper providers or ones with higher joining credit.

So on that basic calculation - That "free" TV - only 43 inch as well - will cost me nearly $3400 extra to get.

    Great deal.

    • was thinking you'd be using meridian energy because of your name :'D haha

      • Good point, never thought of it :) - Just checked them out - 4c a KWH more expensive and no Hour free - so I will stay where I am.

        • yeah they are quiet expensive but i think they offer either fly buys or air points

This "deal" is really for people who fail at basic maths.
