Energy club is very very misleading. They charge $5 a week on top of the daily rates + the daily usage. The $5 a week 'club deal' made it more expensive than my provider Ecotricity

    • hmmmm.. what's the $5 charge on top of your rates for?

only seems a bargain if you leave immediately after 6 months

  • Ask Powershop for $150 credit, even if you are an "old" customer.

    • I had a bad experience with powershop where my parents bought a place but lived overseas more of the time, and they assumed it to be a holiday home as power activity was so low, so the price was $1.50 a day, and $0.6 kW/hr. Ridiculous. You only save the more you use - but after peak hour rates works best for me which there are many companies offering, for instance, I'm currently with Ecotricity.

      • Yep, Powershop has 2 different rates for owner occupied and otherwise, and they are increasingly becoming a rip off, I'll switch after the $150 credit has been used up. :D

  • In Wellington, standard usage:
    Energy club: $2.29/day, 20.57c/kwh
    Contact basic plan: $1.84/day, 19c/kwh

If you use 1000kwh/month, you pay $29.2 more with energyclub than with Contact's basic plan.

  • That's a high weekly fee! Currently with Pulse their weekly fee is $2.42 inc GST ($0.30 daily + GST) and their rate is 21.046c/kWh in Canterbury.
What are people paying? I'm guessing most people here are quite savvy with their power deals!

    • With pulse you need to give them 30 days notice to disconnect according to their contract. So what you do is call them, give them the notice, tell them how much sign up bonus youre getting then theyll offer something less maybe $50 maybe $70 for a 12 month contract, up to you to verbally accept or not

Even if you givr them 30 notice, doesnt mean theyll disconnect you after 30 days, thats up to you

      • Yes I have done that with Pulse, same retention team gave me $75 off and decreased the kWh by 3c and added a daily "Retailer Services" fee of 34.5c for the 12 contract. Best to do it every year!
