2Degrees has a brand new unlimited mobile plan, the only unlimited plan in NZ with free hotspotting.

The more people you have on the plan (Up to 4) The cheaper the plan is per person per month.

Example

4 people group
$40 p/month per person
Unlimited* NZ Data
Unlimited* Calls to NZ & Aussie
Unlimited* Texts to NZ & Aussie

3 people group
$45 p/month per person
Unlimited* NZ Data
Unlimited* Calls to NZ & Aussie
Unlimited* Texts to NZ & Aussie

*Max speeds reduce to 1 Mbps after 40GB/mth per person & hotspotting speeds may be reduced further during periods of network congestion. Fair use policy applies.

Pros: If you use heaps of data and calls then this is probably the cheapest plan you'll get in NZ if you get a group of 4 people for it. Slows down only after 40gb per people and hotspotting is available too. Calls and Text includes Aussie.

Cons: Only one bill. 2Degrees may have limited network in some areas.

      It's pretty good compared to what VF or SPK are offering…

      2D- > Max speeds reduce to 1 Mbps after 40GB per month, per person & hotspotting speeds may be reduced further during periods of network congestion.

      Compared to:

      SPK -> *Unlimited data: Speeds reduce after 22GB per line. No tethering or hotspots unless you purchase a hotspot extra

      VF -> Unlimited Data: Speeds will be reduced to a maximum of 1.2mbps once mobile data usage reaches 22GB on the Unlimited Open Term plan. Use of data through sharing, tethering or using your device as a hotspot is prohibited unless the Hotspot add-on has been purchased.

      Come on. Credit when it's due. You are not really expecting to replace your unlimited fixed line fiber connection with a 40 dollar mobile plan are you?

          That's 360p bitstream.

          But you need to watch almost 30 hours of 720p videos to use up 40GB, that's one hour per day on the phone, I think that's pretty excessive.

          i've recently had it. you can watch SD videos on youtube easily but if you're sharing the connection it's pretty dismal.

        some countries do unlimited but with hotspot limit (e.g 10GB hotspot only) or speed limit which i think is reasonable trade off.

      They do, it's just more expensive across two people.

      I dont think we will see 40 dollar unlimited plans anytime soon though.

    Spark is better if you're looking for a bundle deal or if you're using other services such as Spotify and Lightbox.

    Spotify is included for up to 24 months ($14.99 per month) for one person and ½ price for the others.
    Lightbox is included ($12.99 per month)
    Throttle speed is 1.25Mbps (after 22GB usage) vs 1Mbps with 2degrees (after 40GB usage)
    No fair use policy applies (whereas 2Degrees has a fair use policy)
