WD My Passport SSD 1TB $160.89 + Shipping @ Dragon PC

80

Looks like cheapest ever by about 50% according to Pricespy and an amazing price for a 1TB SSD.

Shipping is $4.50 to North Island.

Possible price match at Noel Leeming. Dragon PC looks like it’s a physical store in Christchurch.

EDIT: According to bonanton Dragon PC has confirmed it is a price error for them, and this item has since been removed from their website. However, many people are getting success price matching at Noel Leeming through other stores with similar prices (see above link to Pricespy).

  • Really good price. Though I know Dragon PC have had price errors in the past and ended up cancelling my orders. This looks like a price error.

    • +1

Paradigm and other two stores have similar prices though…

      • weird, that the 256gb and 512gb seems to be a lot more expensive than the 1tbs on the site.

  • defo price error, not going to try as they are a small company , good find though

    • Seems like 4 other stores on pricespy has this for around $160. The bigger stores however has these for $400-500. Might or might not be a price error but wouldn't know if no one tried.

Ended up getting one for $146 at Noel Leemings so its a pretty good deal.

      • Did you price match online or instore?

        • price matched online + 10$ off code + pick up in store

          • @Tomo: I just tried but got rejected

            • @bilberry: Not sure why they would reject a price match. But mine went through fine.

              • @Tomo: Time to add another ComCom penalty to NL, along with that breach of warranty obligations fine :)

                • @The Hound: Not convinced the ComCom would consider this a breach of anything. Most advertising for the price promise makes it clear T&C applies. I'm not sure how well they always advertise where you can find the T&C, but "we won't price match errors" seems the sort of T&C that doesn't really need much advertisement anyway.

Assuming DragonPC page was still up at the time, then probably the only mistake NL made was rejecting it outright rather than saying "we need to investigate further and make sure this is really a regular price". But since they were ultimately fully within their rights to reject the match, the fact that they possibly didn't have enough info to outright reject at the time is going to be a minor violation at best.

Of course NL T&C also allows them to restrict it to "retail home appliance dealers" anyway and it's questionable if DragonPC really fits in that category, but that gets into a more complicated argument including whether they've properly advertised this T&C.

              • @Tomo: I always get rejected and once a manager got called and he ask if it was a joke. Can't be bothered with asking for price matching anymore. I think everyone else here has real lenient sales staff.

        • Just price matched at NL with Paradigm PC and copped for $159 with the $10 discount. Still a good deal, maybe give it another go and it will go through!

      • It's because a bunch of the smaller sites sell direct from a wholesaler(and use their pricelists + add their own margin)

  • Product not found. Looks to be expired

Had a chat with dragon PC online. They said it is an error.

    • I'm assuming it was a supplier error. From what I've seen on PriceSpy, many of the low margin ultra cheap online only sellers have some system to automatically or semi automatically adjust their prices based on supplier prices plus whatever margin they've chosen to add. So such an error would easily propagate.

    • Looks like a couple of people managed to nab them through NL though :)

  • +3

NL is still price matching online, just purchased one for $156.55 including the $10 discount

    • which website did you provide? thanks

        • Thanks !

          • @ShopRewards: yes, got NL matched the price with the link + $10 off voucher via online chat.
            Thank you.

        • +1

Also succeeded in Pricematching through NL with this link :)

          • @4znDvd: did you guys call or goto the store, online chat seems unavailable

            • @Huntakillaz: I did it through online chat. It was sporadically available.

        • priced using that link is now showing as $480.09, i feel like i missed out on this deal again

          • +1

            @wellydeal: It's showing to be $166 again.

Also check Pricespy link above for other stores with similar prices that you can try to purchase from / price match with NL.

  • Code MYNL16W10 for $10 off works

for those not able to get the new signup $10 off

  • Definitely still price matching at Noel Leeming as of Sunday morning. $161.15 with $10 discount.

    • edit: trying to find live chat to match against this link:

      https://www.playtech.co.nz/wd-my-passport-ssd-1tb-portable-s…

cant find the live chat link! :(

      • That playtech link probably won't work to pricematch as once you click checkout it shows as the normal price, use the doolz link instead while its back down to $166

      • I had to disable my adblocker to allow the live chat tab to appear on the side of the page. Maybe try that?

  • So glad i kept waiting for live chat yesterday, email came back with this:

    Hi ,

Thank you for your email in relation to this price match.
I have had a look into this for you and I am sorry but I am unable to match this price for you sorry as we are not showing any of these in stock nationwide as they appear to have sold out.
Please find these terms and conditions in the link below:
    https://www.noelleeming.co.nz/help/terms-and-conditions/pric…
I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Please feel free to let me know if I can be of any further assistance and I will be more than happy to help.
I hope you have a nice day.

    • This link shows stock https://www.doolz.co.nz/store/search/WDBKVX0010PSL-WESN.html, not sure how they got away with it, can't see a store.

      • I was just advised this from noel leeming:- We do not have it in stock so we won't able to match. Price Promise applies to regular, in-stock units only.

      • doolz went up to $400+ though from what I saw and also seemingly confirmed by discussion above. It sounds like it came back down again (but have now gone back up), but I wouldn't be surprised if NL saw it when the price was back up to $400.

  • Anyone received theirs yet? I'm waiting to collect mine, and I see NL have removed it from the website.

    • I have :) can't imagine NL cancelling a price match unless they're really struggling to fulfill it.

    • If you login online and go to your purchases what does your order status say? My order was ready to collect (Status will say Order Ready when it's ready to collect) within a hour of ordering..

      • Processing. I'm assuming they're waiting on stock, so I've got my fingers crossed that they can get it :S
