  • Didn't they have a free shipping code out recently too?

    • Yea, here.

      • Good stuff.

What's the vibe on mixing synthetic with cheaper natural oil?

And I notice they have other variants on special also if 5W-30 doesn't suit, though not at such a heavy discount.

        • Yup, they do. Didn't put them up as you had mentioned about not heavily discounted. Will put them up now.

I would recommend Morey if you'd like to mix the oil together.

        • Would you think the lower the w is, the better? I haven't done much research on it

@bigbosssnake: Start with what your manufacturer recommends - eg mine says use fully synthetic only. Then look at different brands compatibility checkers, eg Castrol, Havoline, Mobil etc.

The W means 'winter', the lower the number, the better it is during winter/cold starts. It defines a maximum viscosity at low temperatures.
Google oil ratings, start with somewhere like here:

          http://www.driverstechnology.co.uk/oils.htm

          http://www.carbibles.com/engineoil_bible.html

In general though i'd suggest you probably don't need 0W in NZ unless you drive a lot in snowy areas of the south island.

As i understand it the 30 defines the viscosity at 100 degrees. the lower the number the thinner the oil, and possibly better fuel efficiency. But the lower the number the less protection the engine has, so there's more wear. Scroll down to the images in this thread to see 5w-30 vs 5w-40 in a particular engine type:

Note that every engine is designed for a certain range of oils, so on some vehicles you won't see this level of wear, hence stick to what is recommended.

@eXDee: Also if you have an older car like most people, a thinner oil will increase engine vibrations - even though it's the correct grade stated in the owner's manual. For most people 5/10/15W40 is all they need.

        • @eXDee: Amazing, thanks for the info!
