T&C

By signing up to the Octopus Free Lunch plan, you agree to these terms, which are in addition to the Octopus customer terms and conditions and privacy policy.

To be eligible for the Free Lunch plan, you must:

  • Have a smart meter that actively communicates with us, and
  • Be a residential user not a business.

While on this plan, you will receive free electricity usage between 11am and 2pm, seven days a week (the Free Lunch). Any relevant daily charge will still apply for the full day.

Your use of our Free Lunch must not be excessive, it must be fair and ordinary use for a residential user. If your average Free Lunch usage per week exceeds 200kWh, your usage will be considered excessive:

  • If your use is excessive, we will notify you once.
  • If your excessive usage continues after a request to alter the nature of your usage, we reserve the right to move you to an alternative plan with no Free Period and/or charge you for any electricity usage in excess of 200kWh per week during the Free Lunch, at the standard applicable rate. We will make this decision at our sole discretion.

  • Really inconvenient time eh

    • Yes, only good if someone is home during that time which most households won't.

      • 7 days is decent though cause Contact is weekdays only now. I could seriously churn through some power on the weekends doing baking

  • Oof my charges would be (standard user)
    $3.63 daily
    $0.358 peak
    $0.256 offpeak

The peak charge is also higher than what I pay for my $1.72 daily charge with Contact. I also look forward to using my heatpump for cooling at 9pm this summer

  • rates are way higher than supa (0.26c per kwh flat) and the daily rate is the highest ive ever seen

    • auckland/vector? 26 cents incl gst? what is daily charge?

      • yes, daily 1.5 excl gst
        rate 0.24644 excl gst

they dont look like they are taking on new customers currently though.

  • I'm with Meridian on their Freedom plan.

Ran some detailed numbers using my hourly usage patterns over the last 8 months or so and found this plan with Octopus to be 13% more expensive than what I am paying. I work from home 3-4 days a week but couldn't possibly shift enough power to the free hours to make it worthwhile.

  • What is with the crazy high daily charges now? My current meridian plan is 69c a day but all the quotes I've been looking around are all over double that.

      • Thanks for the info, must be lucky for a change!

    • (Almost certainly your very low daily charge rate is that because your still on a Meridian legacy contract rate. I've just checked what a new customer "low user" rates would be. (Northshore , Auckland - a lower socioeconomic area). They only offered their Freedom :& NightSaver Plans, at a bad high "$2.07" fixed daily charge rate !, including GST).
