  • I'm currently using a BambooSim in Indonesia and I'm really happy with it!

Last time I used Airalo (in Australia though), and the network speed was quite slow. BambooSim in Indonesia has been working really fast, I can watch YouTube in 1080p without any issues for example.

Also much cheaper than Airalo, as I bought it during one of their recent deals. Absolutely recommend them!

    • Hey Dutch-Guy,

Thanks so much for your feedback! We're thrilled to read about your great experience with our eSIMs in Indonesia, and we hope to keep you connected on many more trips to come! ✈️

  • I am based in Wellington. I am going to be in singapore between 13th Jan to 16th jan and in Bali from 16th Jan till 24th Jan. Can I purchase this today and use it then? I am fairly unfamiliar with esims and have never used one. Is this the best deal around?

    • Hi DhirajB!

Yes, absolutely! Once you've purchased the eSIM, we'll send you a voucher to redeem it. You'll have 30 days from when you redeem it to activate it, so I'd recommend buying now as part of this deal, and then only redeeming and installing it in early January.

The eSIM will be valid for 30 days from activation occurs, which is automatic when you land in the first supported destination and connect to the network, which in your case is Singapore. Installation is very straightforward; simply scan the QR code we provide (once you redeem it in Jan), turn on data roaming for this eSIM, then you're all set!

Before buying, please do check that your device is eSIM compatible and isn't locked to your telco. The easiest way to check eSIM compatibility is usually by dialling *#06# (as if you're making a call) and see if an 'EID' number shows up. If it does, your device is compatible with eSIM. To check the phone's carrier lock status, on iOS you can go to Settings > General > About > Look for the "Service Provider Lock" which should say "No SIM restrictions". For Android, it's usually in Settings > Connections > More connection settings > Network lock status, or in Settings > About phone > Device details/SIM status. The exact steps can vary depending on your device, but I'd be happy to find a guide for you if you let me know which device you're using.

    • If you are landing in Singapore first and don't mind finding a Singtel store, you can consider this 500GB plan for about $20 - https://hi.singtel.com/plan-detail/45. I bought the physical SIM last time I was in South East Asia.

      • Always good to compare options - I would just like to highlight 2 key distinctions between the products:
        - Our eSIM is available without any KYC requirements. With the product you mentioned, you may be required to provide passport pictures and a selfie/video recording to identify yourself before being able to use the product.
        - The plan we offer is not subject to fair use policies that you may find with the product mentioned, which may throttle down to 128kbps depending on your usage each day.

You'll also be connected from the moment you land and switch on your eSIM, and you have access to our Australian-based 24x7 support team by choosing BambooSIM. Hope this helps!

        • thanks team. got one yest!

          • @DhirajB: That’s great to hear, enjoy your trip!

  • What's the go with getting these going on a modern iPhone?

Not going to lie, last time I tried this (e sim in general, not related to this company or product offering) it was a freaking nightmare. Had to do a bunch of setting changes to really deactivate my physical sim account and stop it phoning home roaming and incurring costs each new day.

When I got back it took ages to get it working again properly. Likes of apple imessage was green all the time and cost me 0.20c each message until days later it finally turned blue and worked again. Things like that and whatsapp are tied to your phone number so didn't behave so well for me when trying to use another e sim provider overseas.

Ended up just roaming on my home account on days where I needed a phone, but generally trying to stay off it when I'm on holiday overseas if I'm honest, survive on wifi at times.

    • Hi Jaxson, thanks for sharing. I'm sorry to hear about the experience you had with eSIMs in the past.

If your device is eSIM compatible, it should be relatively straightforward these days. In any case, our team are more than happy to help you get connected.

If your iPhone supports iOS 26, I'd recommend updating to the latest version if you haven't already. Apple has made quite a few improvements specifically around travel eSIMs, including a dedicated travel eSIM setup process, and some activation issues that previously occurred with iMessaging.

For your iMessage and WhatsApp concerns specifically, you shouldn't need to change the phone number associated with either service. WhatsApp will continue using your existing NZ number while simply using the travel eSIM for its internet connection. On newer versions of iOS, iMessage and FaceTime can also continue using your regular number while you're using a travel eSIM for data.

The process for this eSIM would be as follows:

      1. Purchase the plan via the website using the link to automatically apply the discount. You'll then be sent a link to redeem the eSIM through our portal.
      2. When you're ready to use the eSIM, perhaps a few days before your trip, log into the portal using the email address you ordered with and follow the prompts to finalise your account creation. You'll then have the option to redeem your eSIM and access the QR code. The QR code is valid for 30 days from redemption, so we'd recommend holding off on redeeming it until relatively close to your trip.
      3. Open the Camera app on your iPhone and scan the QR code, then follow the prompts to install the eSIM. If you're using iOS 26, your iPhone may recognise it as a travel eSIM and give you some additional options for how you'd like to use it. Otherwise, just follow the standard installation prompts. As long as you're connected to the internet, the eSIM should install successfully.
      4. Before your flight departs, turn off your regular NZ SIM/eSIM and turn on the travel eSIM. If you're using iOS 26 and Apple gives you the option, you can select "Travel eSIM Only" instead. Under the travel eSIM settings (Settings > Mobile/Cellular > select our eSIM), you'll also need to turn on "Data Roaming". Then you're good to go.
      5. Turn on Aeroplane Mode for your flight as usual, and once you land and turn Aeroplane Mode off, the travel eSIM should connect automatically.
      6. When you arrive back in NZ, simply turn off the travel eSIM and turn your regular NZ SIM/eSIM back on. You should reconnect to your regular provider automatically.

This can definitely seem a bit overwhelming the first time, particularly if you've had a bad experience previously, but we're here to help every step of the way. Our team is available via live chat, email and support tickets, and we'd be happy to guide you through any of the setup if you get stuck.

    • It's weird because my experience is just the opposite.

      • Opposite to mine?

        • Yeah, esim, has been easy to buy, setup and get going. Did it with my wife the other day.

          • @kevin404: I must’ve mucked up a setting along the way 😂

Perhaps I should try again, especially if updates have made it easier to apply on the iPhone

            • @Jaxson: If you wanted to double check your iOS version, you can head to Settings > General > About. I believe the new travel eSIM features were mostly as of iOS 26, and iMessaging issues were fixed around 26.1

  • Why tag china when theyre not 1 or the 5 destinations?

    • That's a great question, and perhaps one that a mod might be able to help with.. It's not actually one of the tags we added ourselves, and so it's not one that we have the option to remove. My guess is that it may have inherited the tag when we entered another one of the destinations?

That said, if you're in need of a China eSIM, that's definitely something we can help with!

  • Do you have anything for Japan + Malaysia? Thanks

    • Hi Juju123,

Unfortunately this is the only combo with the 300GB. We do have plans such as APAC 15 which include the countries you’re after, but currently those go up to 30GB. We might be able to look at a 50GB option if that’s of interest? In terms of pricing, you can take advantage of a previous discount we’ve temporarily reopened here: https://bamboosim.com/en/travel-esims/asia-pacific?discount=…

Otherwise depending on how soon you’re travelling, we expect more plans to become available closer to the end of year peak travel season.

      • Thanks. We are traveling to Japan from mid of Dec26 for 3 weeks then Malaysia for 10days. I dont think we will need 300GB

        • No worries, the APAC 15 plan may be a bit more suitable in that case!

  • I'm sorry mate, but as much as I would like to promot your business you just cant beat https://esim.dog/.

    • No worries! While we haven’t heard of them before, we can see you’re quite fond of that specific brand. In the interest of full transparency for the community, may we ask if you’re affiliated, and which deal they have which beats this one on price or inclusions?

      • I'm really not that fond of this specific brand, I'm fond of a good deal paired with a good service. I am not affiliated with this brand. Their deals in general are better, I know 300GB 30Day sounds better than 20GB 30Day, but really Im going to japan for 10 days, not 30, so deals need to fit the person.

Here the link to the deal I will purchase from them:
        https://esim.dog/jp?tab=fixedgb&data=20&validity=30
        For less than 15NZD

        Here the closest you offer:
        https://bamboosim.com/en/travel-esims/japan?discount=C300GB&plan=single_use&days=10&data=30
For almost three times the price.

        • Thanks for sharing and clarifying, kevin404!

If you're after a roaming eSIM, there's always the possibility that we can do a manual order for you (including a review on pricing) as we have quite a wide variety of telco & network partnerships. That said, we always encourage customers to compare options, so if you've found one from a brand that you trust and believe is a better suit, then we'd recommend going for it!

          • @BambooSIM: Im not sure what a "roaming" eSIM is, I'm only after Japan for 10 days, I appreciate it tho.
My wife is currently in America and will test esim.dog, depending that outcome I will consider your proposal, thank you for that.

            • @kevin404: There's a couple of different types of eSIMs for travellers:
              - "Local" eSIMs (such as what we offer in direct partnership with KDDI (au), one of Japan's top local telcos with extensive coverage and 5G. These will get you the best possible speeds due to local routing, and you'll be on a Japanese IP address. We offer a fixed data plan at max speed, unlimited data at 10mbps, and unlimited data at max speed (typically reported as anywhere from 400mbps to 1gbps). The unlimited offerings are truly unlimited with no daily caps or slowdowns.
              - "Roaming" eSIMs which is what you'll typically see at cheaper price points. These are provided by telcos with roaming agreements, so you'll have an IP address from the country through which your traffic flows. For example, with the eSIM in this deal, data flows through Singapore. The plan you referenced is via Hong Kong/China. Most providers offering an "unlimited" offering while roaming will generally cap speeds after a small amount of usage - the provider you mentioned as an example will throttle speeds to between 384kbps and 1mbps depending on how much you pay.

We're always happy to help - feel free to reach out if you would like to go ahead with a custom order!

  • I looked at esim.dog in the past as I'm travelling to OZ next month and can confirm that BambooSim is the cheapest one out there, especially when you buy 2 or more.
May I ask though, we are planning to travel to Thailand in Sep-Oct 27. Would this promotion still be available during those period? If my memory serve, the esim usually last for 6months?

    • Thanks for your support!

It might be a bit early to purchase this eSIM for that period. For this specific product we’re advising customers that the voucher will be valid for 180 days from the purchase date, and that once redeemed for a QR code, you’ll have another 30 days to activate the eSIM.

We do have other products with 365 day validity from the purchase date, but my recommendation would be to keep an eye out for deals in the first half of 2027; we have a number of new offerings in the works, so it’s likely that we may have an even better deal before your next trip.

For Thailand specifically, we actually have local eSIMs with a truly unlimited data allowance (and local phone numbers/IPs). Currently this is via TRUE/dtac, and from what I hear, we will have a very similar option through AIS very soon!

    • Using their website I havent managed to get a cheaper price than esim.dog for Japan. They did offer me a price match on a comment above.

      https://esim.dog/jp?tab=fixedgb&data=20&validity=30
      15NZD

      https://bamboosim.com/en/travel-esims/japan?discount=C300GB&plan=single_use&days=10&data=30
      42NZD

  • Hey man, literally have eSIM.dog pulled up when I saw this post, so I thought I’d ask, do you have anything for Japan? Looking for 2 esims that total out to less than 40$ nzd for 3 weeks and 30 ish gigs.

    • How soon are you travelling? We have our local KDDI eSIMs which I'd highly recommend, and which we should have an offer for very soon.

Also just to confirm, do you mean 30GB in total between the two plans, or 30GB for each plan? It sounds like you may be after more of a roaming plan for that price point - for 21 days specifically, the site you mentioned does 30GB for ~$55 NZD each from what I see, with 15GB being ~$33 NZD each.

      • Traveling this weekend, and 30gb per plan. Here's what I'm about to buy.

        • Thanks for sharing! We could potentially do 2x plans at 20 NZD each (30GB, 30 Days) on a custom order if you're interested?

          • @BambooSIM: Could do.

Since it's KDDI/au I assume the IP breakout point is Japan, so latency would be low, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

            Just curious for two things:
            - if it's LTE or includes 5G
            - if hotspot tethering is possible

Heading over for business so I anticipate an amount of laptop tethering might be necessary.

All of the above (seems to be) included in the eSim.dog plan, but I'm not against supporting local(ish) and going with you guys for a few pennies more.😂

            • @keenoko: No worries, happy to clarify!

This particular plan will be roaming (not direct via KDDI) to meet the price point - in this case, breakout will be in Hong Kong, and you'll be able to connect via KDDI (au), Docomo, and Rakuten Mobile - your phone will automatically select the network by default, but you can change it manually if you prefer. 5G and tethering are both supported.

& we appreciate your support! If you're happy to go ahead noting the above, we can organise a checkout link or custom invoice for you

              • @BambooSIM: Oh nah will pass, would really like the low latency of the direct routing. Thanks though!

                • @keenoko: No problem at all! I'd just recommend double checking the external plan you were looking at in that case to make sure it still suits your requirements.

We do expect to launch a local 21 day product very shortly, but the price point would be a bit higher than the roaming options unfortunately.

In any case, enjoy your time in Japan!

  • need something for 30days china/korea. I dont need much data maybe 3GB is enough any code for my case?

    • I'd recommend the APAC 15 plan if you're looking to cover both countries on a single eSIM.

We do have plans starting from 3GB, but generally we suggest getting a little bit extra if you're travelling to China specifically, just in case you use a little bit more than expected - Wi-Fi and other networks in-country would be subject to the great firewall which will restrict you from accessing a number of apps and sites. It's also a good idea to check on your data usage occasionally, just in case you're nearing the limit.

We've temporarily extended a previous promotion for that plan, so you can use this link for a discount: https://bamboosim.com/en/travel-esims/asia-pacific?discount=…

      • thanks I will be flying next week. so hopefully its still valid next week!

        • The promotion itself will last a few more days - but once you've bought the eSIM, you'll have plenty of time to activate it, so no issues there!

          • @BambooSIM: ok good to know its doesnt start right away. cheers!

            • @Hungryhippo: Our eSIM plans activate when you install it and switch it on in a supported destination. Just one thing to be mindful of is that Australia is an included destination on the APAC 15 plan, so I'd recommend holding off installing the eSIM with the QR code until just before your flight - that way you'll get the full 30 days. Hope that clarifies!

      • Hi, when will this APAC promo end?

        • I believe within the next couple of days - the official promotion for that one ended, but we had quite a few people miss out so we’ve temporarily extended the code validity. I’d recommend purchasing over the weekend if you’re interested in that discount!

  • Got all the way to putting in my card details to click pay before noticing on this final page it tells you this plan is 4G only. Y?

    • Hi Jexla,

Great question! While you will be able to access 5G using this eSIM where available (based on our own testing of the product), the official product spec we received from the telco mentions it being 4G. This is something we're seeking clarification on from the sponsoring telco, and once completed we'll be updating our website accordingly.

      • Understandable, I'd just suggest putting that in the product description the whole way through instead of right at the end so it doesn't feel deceptive.

        • Hi! Just to clarify: it should show you 4G next to each of the included countries when you select the plan on the product page which is the start of the journey for that product type - are you seeing something else?

          • @BambooSIM: Ah, yeah - You're right. I guess I missed that and then it's added to the products title at the end I thought, that wasn't in the product title at the start.

I've grabbed 2 for our Thailand trip next month, so cheers.

            • @Jexla: No worries - we'll still take this on board as feedback internally, so we appreciate you raising it.

              Enjoy your trip to Thailand!
