[Android, iOS] Until - Countdowns & Milestones Widget App - Lifetime Pro $0.99 (Was $9.99) @ Google Play, Apple App Store

00

A few months ago I posted Until here on ChoiceCheapies NZ as a small Android countdown app after forgetting one too many birthdays 😅

The response was great, and there were some great ideas and feedback in the comments. So I went through them and started building.

Since then, Until has grown quite a bit and is now also available on iOS as Untilio.

Some of the requested features now include:

  • Free Trial - up to 10 Moments
  • Milestones - e.g. "30th birthday in 10 days" or "25th Anniversary in 20 days"
  • More notification options - Alert in notification tray before custom number of days (or) set an alarm for the occasion.
  • Backup & restore - Keep your content when you switch phones.
  • More customisation - Themes and different colours for the users who found forest green a little too spinach-coloured
  • And a bunch of smaller UX improvements
ChoiceCheapies offer

As a thank you for all the feedback, I'm making Lifetime Pro $0.99 for a limited time.

iOS: Untilio - Redeem offer here
Redeem the offer after installation of the app.

Android: Until Lifetime Pro is $0.99 during the promotion.
Android app would show the discounted price on the purchase screen.

Offer ends 20 September 2026.

If you downloaded Until from the original deal, update it and have another look. All existing users should already be grandfathered into Lifetime Pro

And if there's still something you think Until should do, let me know. I'm still listening. 🙂

    • Thanks. Will link it in the post as well.

  • Don't take this the wrong way, but why should people use your app over the other apps out there? What's unique or different in yours? I know you're only asking for $1, but there are free apps out there that seem to do the same thing:

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brunoschal…
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jupli.coun…

Also, a countdown app is not exactly difficult to develop. It is the kind of project you might expect to see in a university Computer Science assignment or as a beginner developer project. With AI-assisted development tools, creating an app like this can be done fairly quickly and with relatively little effort.

I also do not think the RRP of $10 is reasonable. That is more than I have paid for some indie games, which are arguably far more deserving of that price point given their complexity and the amount of time, effort, and creativity involved in their development. I'm not saying your app didn't require time, effort and creativity to create though.

In general, games are significantly more complex to build than a simple utility app and typically require far more development time, testing, and ongoing refinement. It would cost me way less tokens to develop an app like this within 30 mins, than it would cost to develop a full blown game. For an app based on a straightforward concept such as a countdown timer, a $10 price tag feels difficult to justify.

I also use Google Calendar as my primary reminder and event management tool. One of the biggest advantages is how well Google's ecosystem integrates with itself. For example, I can easily create a Google Task from a calendar event, generate reminder events directly from Gmail, and link various Google services together with minimal effort.

On top of that, I use Google Apps Script to automate a number of recurring tasks. For example, when I receive a Watercare bill for my rental property, the script automatically processes the email, extracts the relevant information from the billing PDF (deducting the total from the fixed amount that landlord is responsible for), performs the necessary calculations, and creates a reminder event in my Google Calendar. It then triggers a webhook that sends an email to my tenant informing them of the amount they need to pay. At the same time, it also sends an SMS message containing the payment amount, giving them two separate reminders.

The workflow also creates a Google Task for me each month so I can review outstanding tasks if needed. The entire process is automated end-to-end, requiring no manual intervention whatsoever (apart from ticking off the task once I've confirmed the payment is received).

Because my Google Calendar is also connected to devices such as Alexa and Google Home, I receive additional reminders through those platforms as well. As a result, I already have a highly integrated and automated system for managing reminders, events, and recurring tasks, which makes it difficult for a standalone countdown app to provide significant additional value. Unless your app can hook into Google Calendar (or other platforms) and let you choose what type of events you want to automatically create a countdown for, then I think it's not going to attract a lot of people. Having to manually create events in your app and in another app like Google Calendar is tedious work and it's not going to sustain long term, it also doesn't scale well with the amount of tasks users have to create.

    • The app also has a free trial. You can try it and let me know if you still feel google calendars are better. It was useful for me. Since calendars and reminders are structured to alert you on the day of event. I wanted something that reminds you early on.

      • Since calendars and reminders are structured to alert you on the day of event

Not true. You can set the calendar reminder to alert you at a granular level. You can be reminded on the day of, or reminded days before or weeks before. The reminder can be via email or notification. And if you use Google App Script, you can make it even more granular.

For certain events, I have it set to remind me 2 weeks before, 1 week before and on the day of, so I get 3 reminders for the same event. I'll get reminded when I receive email notifications, or when my Alexa or Google Home announce those events.

And I think you're missing my point. Having to manually create the same reminder (that they've already created in Google Calendar or elsewhere) is not really something people should have to do in 2026.

There should be integrations with other platforms that allow the app to sync reminders and events that you've already created. From there, the app could simply provide a countdown for those particular events. To me, this makes a lot of sense, especially considering that your app and the typical calendar/reminder apps are in the same general category. The transition should be seamless, making it easy for users to bring their existing reminders and events into your platform rather than having to recreate everything manually. Not to mention that some people use shared calendars with family members or spouses, and being able to import those and create a countdown will be useful.

There's merit in using both a calendar app and a countdown app. One shouldn't replace another. But usually, most people just pick one to use, because of the hassle of having to create the same reminder in multiple places.

And I still don't know what's unique in your app that the free ones don't offer already. I don't really need to trial it when I can just download a free one that does the same thing. I'd be happy to test it and even buy it if your app offers Google Calendar integration (or integration with some other platforms) and create a countdown event based on an existing calendar entry.

  • Mate, I reckon the developer deserves a bit of support. They’re actually building something instead of just talking about it. Why waste so much time explaining why it shouldn’t exist? 😂

Let’s support people putting in the work. We should be backing each other, not pulling each other down 👻

  • Hi there, great app, wondering is there a way to make the widget bigger so you can see more than two countdowns? thanks
