Is this a good unit? I've never had a robot vacuum before, but want to find something that can help me keep on top of pet hair (long hair border collie) and crumbs dropped by the kids. Plan being to basically run the vacuum in the evenings when the kids are in bed and their toys etc have been put away.
I don't mind spending a bit to get a really good robot vacuum, but very unsure as to what to buy.

I have the L30 ultra for over a year and had barely touched our normal vacuum cleaner. It's very practical to just set a schedule, and the water tanks and dust bags last for a while before you need to do anything. If you get it, do get the consumables from Temu or other sites like that.

No VE in this review, but all similar.
Edit: if it were my money, I'd get this one for $400 more - https://dreame.co.nz/products/dreame-l50-ultra-ae-robot-vacu… (was $2,299.00, now $1,399.00)

I am having an absolutely horrendous experience with our Dreame L50 Ultra and, more importantly, their support. We bought it when we bought our home as this was listed highly on Vacuum Wars in the top 10. Thinking it was a good decision, we bought it directly from their website during the Boxing Day sale. It makes a terrible rattling noise when going about. I checked everything, did what I could, wrote to support, and they were so generic in their responses. They asked me to reset the unit. I did and went back, sent them videos of the unit making the noise, not cleaning properly, and not extending its arms to clean the sides even when the setting was activated. Anyway, I remapped the whole house, tried, and nothing changed. It still does the terrible rattling noise. I got back to them saying I have done everything they asked me to and it was still not doing its job and making a rattling noise. They then asked me to make a video of me resetting, remapping, and show me proof that I did all that, and they will take it from there. I was not going to do that. Now we use it. It does what it does, sweep and mop, a terrible job, very noisy. I then run my Dyson Stick along the edges, take a cloth, and spot clean the floor where needed.
Recently, it has started dying in the middle of a clean. I would think an expensive machine would know to go back and charge and resume, but no, and it dies right in the middle of a clear, and just the living, lounge, and dining areas and nothing else. I wrote to support once again, 6th day of no response. I would absolutely stay away from them. I have no clue what to do. I asked Claude, and it says I can do some consumer complaint, etc., but cannot be bothered, but now that I have vented this after seeing this post, I might as well just use part of this to raise that complaint.
Please note, my vent is about the Dreame L50 Ultra, not the model under offer in this post, but I thought it would help to share my experience.

Trying, if only they responded.

Places like this suck at giving them - one advantage of physical stores they can't hide.

I bought a RoboRock from Taobao, but it locks the region. Before it locks the region, it runs really well, just cost less than 1000 New Zealand dollar. But I I think the feature is better than L50 Ultra. You know, locing the region means losing all the scheduling jobs and voice features—it's absolutely useless.

Can buy a China VPN access point from Taobao to bypass the region lock. Have seen some discussions about this. I was thinking about that option but ended up not going ahead as it's not worth the hassle. According to PriceSpy, Ecovas X11 was $1436 at Loel Leeming a week ago. I'll go with that when it hits the price again.

I bought an entry-level ECOVACS Y30 with a self-empty station about three years ago, and I've been very happy with it. My friend recently bought the latest T90 Pro for around $600(about 3000RMB) during JD.com's 618 Shopping Festival.
It seems that most other robot vacuum brands have introduced region locks for their China-market models, and luckly ECOVACS hasnt done the same.

Pretty sure Evovacs have region locks on Taobao. Don't think the JD's version is any different.

I am quite experienced with various proxy tools. Without a VPN, I wouldn't even be able to activate it, actually I have set up an independent router and iphone that has changed the timezone and location. However, you can't VPN stability, any connection drop would expose your location and lock your device

are you sure its ECOVACS ?

Bought the Roborock qrevo edge on prime day. Have been using it for few days now and it is really good. Love the dual brush, no more hair problem. The app is awesome. You need dual brush or tricut brush for dreame if you have pets or long hair in home. I think this one doesn't come with tricut brush which you will need to buy separately.
