    For the true cheapies - I recommend a $35 Claude subscription, $15 or so for a domain name from namecheap/godaddy, and a google workspace license, I think similar price too, for emails, google docs, etc. Search online for some good prompts.

    I used to use these kinds of services back in the day, but now with AI, it pretty much does everything. It can even take you step by step through everything needed.

    The best part is you're not tied to another company anymore for running your site or recurring hosting costs, which helps with cashflow, but also just not having to rely on anyone else for hosting, changes to the site, and whatnot.

      You forgot about hosting…I recently moved from Cloudways to Hostinger for my ecommerce and its only about $400nzd for 4 years of hosting. Unless its a static webpage which in that case Github can host your website for free.

      I agree with this too.

      One of the worst things many web design / build / host providers do is make it really difficult to move elsewhere. I can only guess that in many cases they know they aren't going to be providing a great service / value, and therefore have to find some other way to lock customers in.

      If you do it yourself, albeit with some online assistance (such as Claude as you suggest), then it is all yours to do with as you please, and you can move hosting whenever it makes sense to do so.

    $600 for this is a rip-off. You can achieve a lot of this for much cheaper these days.

    Even before the current AI trend, platforms like Squarespace, Wix, WordPress, and many others already offered similar solutions for less.

    You can also get free hosting through services like Vercel or Netlify, depending on what you're trying to build. I use them for many of my personal projects. Cloudflare Workers is another option for basic applications, where you can often run things for free and simply handle domain routing/redirects. Github Pages is also a free option.

    AWS and Azure also offer free-tier options. For example, Azure provides free static website hosting through storage accounts (which is free, but depends on how you use it). There are plenty of affordable or free options available if you know what you're setting up.

    If you want options, you can just Google or ask AI how to build these things for free, have it research the available options, and you'll find plenty of solutions.

    As for domains, they're generally around $20–$40 per year for common domains like .co.nz or .com. You can often find cheaper alternatives like .tech, and even free domain options. It depends entirely on your use case. For example, I bought a .tech domain years ago that cost around $50 for 10 years.

    Also, I wouldn't feel comfortable trusting a company that charges significantly more for services that are available elsewhere at a much lower cost, even if their price is already discounted. The examples on their website aren't really good either. For a company that specializes in web & software development, this really looks below average. I've seen really nice looking websites created by AI and you can find plenty of tutorials on Youtube on this.

    These days, if you're trying to build a brand or product, the bigger focus should be on things like SEO optimization for AI search, branding, user experience, and actually getting traction. Spending $600 upfront and hoping everything works out probably isn't the best approach.

      Their site seems to indicate they do some kind of bespoke ai stuff bit it's kinda vague.

      $600, to be fair, isn't bad at all if you're entirely outsourcing the work

        Yeah, I wouldn't spend $600 on it, but that's because I know I can do the same thing for the price of a domain name and maybe an hour of my time.

        But for someone with no technical knowledge and no desire to wade through the work themselves, $600 isn't bad. I would want to know what the ongoing annual fee is (shouldn't be more than the price of a domain plus a small retainer), and I'd want to know that my website was actually going to look decent and drive business.

        And as someone else has pointed out, that I'm not getting my domain locked into a contract I can't get out of. But the website as it stands doesn't give me that confidence.

    $600 for AI slop, even your own website looks like a Claude job. You can make your own website for free now, host for free on Cloudflare. The amount of "web designers" pushing this AI as 'web design' is scary, are businesses actually paying for this?

      There's always a dumb crowd that just buys stuff or pay for stuff because they don't reaearch and can't think for themselves, despite that they have no money and constantly in debt. It's how the free world works I guess.

      I would also be annoyed to pay someone to build something they openly state they aren't familiar with

    Domain registered 2027-07-25 via GoDaddy (Potentially 26/07 depending on timezone)

    Nothing found other than the website itself (and this page) when searching via google or DuckDuckGo

    Website is likely a template and/or AI generated (for some reason a website catering to New Zealand chose to have Spanish as the alternative language choice)

      To not be an AI you need to write with errors? Although I understand the implications of AI, governments should be regulating this more but this is not happening. So we got two options.
      1. We use it as a tool because it is here to stay.
      2. We complain about it and let other people use it as a booster to their day to day work.

      And it is in Spanish because, I have friends helping me with this and hablamos español.

      En un país multicultural como Nueva Zelanda, creo que se puede esperar que personas hablen más de un idioma.
