Hey guys,
Moving houses soon to the Avonhead / Ilam / Burnside area (still on the Orion network) and looking to sort out the best power and broadband bundle.
We’re definitely Standard Users, currently sitting around 11k–12k kWh per year. The new place has a wood burner + 5kW heat pump, so I'm expecting that to drop to around 10k kWh. We also just need a standard unlimited 500/100 fibre connection (or higher if the bundle makes sense).
Meridian shifted us onto their open-term Simple Flexi (Economy 24 meter) late last year after retiring our old "4 hours free" plan. We have a $20/month credit rolling until November, but our current rates are:
Daily Fixed: $1.9579/day (incl. GST)
Variable Rate: 29.15 c/kWh (incl. GST)
I'm currently eyeing up the Mercury Everyday Standard Inclusive 1-year term. The rates I'm seeing are a $2.6220 daily charge and 26.71 c/kWh inclusive, which comes with a $300 sign-up credit and 12 months of half-price FibreMax broadband ($57.50/m). Am I interpreting those numbers right?
A few other options I've looked at:
Genesis: Seeing Daily $1.947 and Inclusive $0.2778.
Powershop: They always seem to pop up on top of the comparison sites, but I really don't want the hassle of constantly managing and purchasing in-app Powerpacks.
Electric Kiwi: Need to be bundling to get the price.
Are there any other hidden promos, juicy sign-up credits, or specific bundles working well for high-use Christchurch households right now?
Cheers for any data points or recent sign-up tricks!
Worth a whirl
