from my understanding the CUDA stuff in Nvidia makes it a fair bit better for SD - I don't think it would be bad (esp if you run up a linux enviroment for it) but it likely won't be the most optimal

Yes, but it's nowhere near as good as with Nvidia Cards, and can be a bit of a hassle to squeeze the best performance out of it. But if you use ComfyUI, it's easy enough to just get it working at least.
Local LLMs are fine (with something like LM Studio).
If you can help it, go with Nvidia.

Anyone knows if these AMD cards can do StableDiffusion or other local Gen AI stuff reliably and conveniently ?
