  Those are carbon-zinc batteries which are fine for things like clocks but not suited for devices that need to have bursts of power use. Carbon-zinc batteries are also more likely to leak over time.
  
  A more apt comparison would be Kmart's 18-pack of AAA alkaline batteries for $10.

Please try using rechargeables you will save money in the long run, and less waste in the tip. Ikea has great prices IF you are in the area
