Pricey, I booked China Southern a few weeks ago in October for 1250. There's a 3.5 hour stop in China, but you get 2x suitcases each way.

I wouldn't say the direct flight on Air NZ, with half the luggage is worth a 50% premium.

    • It's well worth getting one of their flights with a longer layover because you then get a free hotel stay in Guangzhou. Next time!!

      • that hotel they have is bloody great! everything you need so close by. i was expecting it to be far more budget but its actually very well fitted out.

Came here to say the same, Air NZ's greedy pricing knows no end. Absolutely not worth the massive premium they tack on.

This is quite expensive, check out ozbargain website, ANA and Japan Airlines constantly have sales at around AUD1000 from Oz to Japan, why $1900 is considered a bargain?

    • I didn't realise this, I might look further into it next time. ANA and/or JAL, from memory, have a promo where you also get a free domestic flight or something like that if you fly with them.

      Edit: ANA

      I wonder if Okinawa counts.

      • Yes, free domestic flight with an international ticket

    • Oh I'm aware, but that's ozbargain and Aus prices :/ We also get prices here from around $1400 with say Qantas, or Fiji Airways around $1100 at times. But most big airlines are ex-Auckland, and this at least has the possibility of direct from AKL/CHC, and at least one-ticket from WLG and ZQN (or other NZ cities). And if you're after Star Alliance, your options get more limited with say Singapore Airlines being maye one of the other options, but at a much more indirect flight.

I personally hoped AirNZ would have a bigger push for their announcement of CHC flights.

  • Dang, I got mine AirNZ direct flight for ~$1300…granted it was before the current "current affairs" 🙄

  • geez 2k flight to Tokyo is now a bargain? times…
