After the $581 Hamilton to Ho Chi Minh return thread, I wanted to see what else Jetstar's Hamilton to Sydney flight opens up. So I ran every Jetstar day out of Hamilton from now until October 2027, one way in both directions.

Hamilton comes out as the cheapest NZ airport for Ho Chi Minh and Bali by a long way. The flights home are just as cheap, so you can fly into one place and home from another.

Ho Chi Minh City (Sundays, via Sydney, 16h)
  • $330 on 25 Jul, 8 Aug and 22 Aug 2027. Google has it at $1,296 under the usual price
  • $340 on 12 Sep, $368 on 9 May. Most other Sundays from May to mid September are under $460, except early July
  • For comparison, Auckland to Ho Chi Minh on 8 Aug is $636
Ho Chi Minh home to Hamilton (Thursdays)
  • $272 on 24 Jun, $273 on 26 Aug and 9 Sep
  • Same day into Auckland instead: $908
Bali
  • Hamilton to Bali $380 on 7 Feb and 17 Aug. Flies Tuesday, Friday and Sunday
  • Bali home to Hamilton $393 on 18 Mar and 13 May (Thursdays)
  • Auckland to Bali on 17 Aug is $444
Phuket home
  • Phuket to Hamilton $473 on 29 May (Saturdays)
What a trip costs as two one ways
  • Ho Chi Minh and back: $603 ($330 out 25 Jul, $273 home 26 Aug)
  • Into Bali, home from Saigon: $653 ($380 out 17 Aug, $273 home 9 Sep). Bali to Ho Chi Minh is a direct flight in between
  • Bali and back: $773 ($380 out 7 Feb, $393 home 18 Mar)
Nonstop from Hamilton
  • Sydney $189 (24 Aug)
  • Gold Coast $219 (18 Nov this year, also 11 Aug)
Before you book
  • From 2 February 2027 Jetstar's base fare only includes one underseat bag (40 x 30 x 20cm). A normal overhead carry-on is a paid add-on (Priority Carry-on), and checked bags cost extra too. Every price here is the base fare
  • Each one way is a single Jetstar booking, with about 3 to 4 hours in Sydney
  • Vietnam: NZ passports need an e-visa, US$25, done online
  • Bali: visa on arrival is IDR 500,000, plus the IDR 150,000 tourist levy. Use the official sites, there are a lot of fake ones
  • May to October is wet season in Ho Chi Minh, usually short afternoon storms. July and August are Bali's dry season

The link goes to Hamilton to Ho Chi Minh on 22 Aug. Change From or To for the others. Skyspy converts from AUD, so the NZD figure on the site can be a few dollars off Jetstar's own price.

Full disclosure: it's my site, it's free, no signup, it makes money off booking links like every flight comparison site.

Prices are one way economy in NZD, checked today.
