[Hack, Prime] Ad-Free Prime Video by Downloading Title for Offline Viewing

210

TIL this from OzBargain

So maybe you know it already, but you can get Free Ad-Free videos/Movies/Shows from Amazon Prime by Downloading it and then watching it from the downloaded videos section in the Prime app itself.

You can be online or offline actually, when viewing it.

Downsides: you cannot download videos in all platforms (like online browsers) but most work fine, like android phones, Windows app. And you gotta wait for full title to finish downloading before viewing it.

Making you watch ads even after paying the subscription is crazy

    • It's gaming DRM all over again, back in the day games applied increasingly more invasive and difficult DRM to try and stop piracy, it didn't work and the paying customers were having to install multiple third party applications, sign in multiple times, and sometimes their license wouldn't validate amongst other hassles.

Meanwhile the pirates didn't have to do any of that, enjoying the games hassle free whilst the paying customers were being punished.

My JellyFin server and arr containers don't have any ads, cost me nothing (they're VMs/Docker containers on a server I would already be running), have no platform based media distribution (so I don't have to search through multiple to see if they have it or not), and have a wider net to cast for older content.

Just like before, paying customers are being punished, and piracy is rewarded.

      • Slightly off topic, but what trackers are you using for your Sonaar & Radarr? Mine has been broken since 1337x upped their Cloudfare security and Flaresolver stopped working.

I am still using 1337x & TheRarbg on my prowlarr and it is working fine. Though I also have usenet in the mix.

Edit: Just checked. Flaresolverr is still working for me.

Nyaa, RUTracker and TPB, rare I don't get the content I want.

        • Cheers all

Check out byparr as a drop-in replacement for flaresolverr.

That’s similar to all the anti pirating campaign videos you had to sit through when watching on official dvds. Totally targeted and unconvinced the wrong audience.

By contrast pirates sailed right past those to the main event, so it became more appealing to watch.

  • I use adguard in router and dont see any ads

  • Unpopular opinion: Prime Video is actually one of the better value streaming platforms, even with ads. There's not that many ads when watching anyway.

Small price hack: If you weren't aware, it's cheaper to pay for the annual Australian Prime membership than pay the monthly Prime Video only fee for NZ. No workarounds like VPN or need to use Australian Card either.

I signed up in Turkey and pay like $1.40/m, I do it for the games, rather than video, but it comes with video.

My wife has Netflix and we discovered Netflix gaming last night and played Lego Party and I would now declare Netflix to be the better platform. They also have JackBox and Overcooked.

Edit: Due to currency fluctuations and a price increase, I've just checked it and it's now ~$2.70/m

      • What kind of work around is needed to do this? Do you need a VPN (annoying for TV apps) or foreign payment card?

        • +1

VPN (can just use whatever free VPN that you find in browser extensions, I think the one I used was called like, CityVPN or something. I did this years ago and can't remember what it was as it's long gone from my browser) and log into Amazon, then sign up to Prime Video. It'll use whatever credit card is already attached to your Amazon account.

After that you need not use the VPN ever again, and it'll recharge indefinitely, you can also change cards and stuff no drama.

          • @danvelopment: How are you still on Prime Turkey? They kicked me out in 2024

  • We really need one paid service that offers everything. In the meantime many are resorting to the alternative offerings.

For me it’s Firefox, uBlock Origin (adblocker), NordVPN (to get around site blocking) and any of the top 5 sites on here: https://fmhy.net/video

I believe that used to be called SKY TV?
