Gold Coast Trip – Best Bargains to Haul Back to NZ?

Hi Cheapies! Taking the family to the GC soon. We’ve got a 40kg luggage allowance, so I’m looking to fill it wisely.

Is there anything in Australia that’s significantly cheaper or just unavailable in NZ?
I'm looking for all kinds of recommendations, can be electronics, household, kids, health & beauty etc.

Also, are there any bargains, vouchers, or signup bonuses I should take advantage of while I'm there?
Any current OzBargain "must-haves" worth the luggage space?

Cheers!

Remember that if you spend over $300 in a single transaction on goods you're bringing home that you can claim the GST back at the airport. Google 'Australian TRS' for more information.

I always topup my 23kg luggage up with ALDI coffee beans & ground. And they have nice European chocolate at good prices.

  • If the outlet store in Harbour Town is still going you can get some good stuff there if you want clothing. All the Aussie surf brands were well represented, and usually cheaper than here. There was an Adidas outlet store that had a whole bunch of All Blacks stuff that I bought and then flicked when I returned. I guess because it wasn't in New Zealand not many were interested in it. That was 10 years ago though.

I built my PC over there before assembling it and tossing the packaging and bringing it back to NZ (Cpu and GPU in my backpack with the rest of the components wrapped in clothes in my suitcase. Most people get mobile phones or laptops. Could look at camera gear. Amazon is also worth having a look at (Sold and shipped by Amazon AU to get TRS back).

Uniqlo is great for clothes shopping that I feel are much more comfier than AS Colour. Check out their clearance section too - I think i copped a bunch of graphic Tee's for $15 a pop.

+1 on the Aldi beans, also ordered Grinder's coffee 1 KG beans on Amazon prime and it arrived the next day.

Could also look at their Costco to see if there are any exclusives or sale items through there.

They tend to have a better price beat policy across electronics through OfficeWorks/TheGoodGuys too.

Pity I can't shove a TV in a suitcase or I probably would've jumped on the TCL deals they keep posting over at OzBargain.

If you have friends or family there it might pay to bring some Whittakers it's like $9 AUD for a block over there.

  • Goto Uniqlo the cuts of clothes are much better their pants are really good same with shirts a bit expensive ngl but once off is algs lol

  • Agree about the quality of Uniqlo clothing, good value clothes.
Don’t forget about the Tourist Refund Scheme as ABCDEFG advised. A few fishhooks, longish lines at airport but you have to get to the airport early anyway….
