100/20Mbps Fibre Broadband $28/Month (For Eligible Households) @ Vetta Online

40

Email from Vetta, signups are open again.

Eligibility requirements changed and offer adjusted.

I think there may be something wrong with the eligibility checker because an address I know is eligible is not working right now.

Update: eligibility checker seems to be working fine now. Same address that previously didn't work is now working.

Thanks for being part of our Local Linkup digital equity broadband service - we trust you've been enjoying your low-cost fibre broadband!

As you'll be aware, you signed up to this service during our proof-of-concept trial with Chorus, which has since concluded, and the continuation and formal productisation has been under consideration by Chorus.

I'm pleased to advise that Chorus have continued to come to the party, and Local Linkup is here to stay! 🎉

That being said, there are some things to be aware of, so it's important you read this email in full.

Going forward, the service will be changing from having two speed options, to a single option, at a new price point of $28 per month.
This is a 100Mbps download, 20Mbps upload speed plan, and comes with the same inclusions of uncapped data and an included router.

For customers currently on the 100Mbps download / 20Mbps upload Local Linkup plan:
Your price will be increasing by $2 - from $26 per month, to $28 per month, effective 20th March 2026.

For customers currently on the 500Mbps download / 100Mbps upload Local Linkup plan:
Your price will be decreasing by $2, from $30 per month, to $28 per month, effective 20th March 2026.
Your plan will also be changed to the new single 100Mbps download/20Mbps upload option.

Eligibility requirements going forward have changed, and the updated requirements can be seen on our new webpage, www.locallinkup.nz.
However, we will be maintaining your services under the existing proof-of-concept eligibility for 12 months, through to February 2027.
This means you do not currently need to meet the new eligibility requirements, and we'll reach out next year to review your eligibility under the new requirements.

Effective immediately, we have developed dedicated contact methods specifically for Local Linkup, giving you better access to our team to support you with your service.
These new contact details are:
Email: [email protected]
Phone: 03 247 LINK (03 247 5465)
Please use these contact details going forward to reach out to our team to assist as required.
If you would rather not continue with the Local Linkup service based on the above information, please reply to this email and inform our team to cancel your service, who will be able to guide you through the steps required to close off the service.

Thank you for showing your support of this service throughout the proof-of-concept trial, allowing us to get to this point and solidify a formal product into the future.

If you have any questions, please do reach out to us.

Many Thanks,
Shaun & the Vetta team

Yes, service works just fine. Household of 3 adults and 2 kids. I WFH 2-3 days during the week

    • Yep signed my mother up to it. The modem they provide is a bit trash and kept kicking her devices off but it's required for the connection. Ended up having to bridge into a proper one to keep her happy. No problems with the actual connection.

      • It's not required, I have my own router and the one they provided is still in the box.

Alternatively, just wait for the next Mighty Mobile 5G deal. I got one last year, now I pay around $33/month and get around 380Mbps down and 40 Mbps up with my own 5G router. No need to meet social housing requirements either.

Is that against their unlimited use T & C?

      • +2
        • Yeah

The Plans and Services are for personal mobile phone use only

If they didn't have that restriction I'd consider it

I don't believe so. The plan I'm on (Fastest plan) allows you to hotspot. So if you can use a phone to create a hotspot and share that with other phones, then why not a router?

I mean, if you really want to play by the rules, just get a phone and share the hotspot. Your other devices connect to the hotspot, so it still works the same. Or, use a router as a wireless bridge to connect to the hotspot and then create a 2nd access point, then your other devices connect to the router. Voila, no rules broken. It seems unnecessary to me though, so set it up however you like. And see this comment here - https://www.cheapies.nz/comment/288502/redir

I think most companies are too lazy to check these things anyway. If your usage is pretty normal, like 300GB a month or something, that should be fine. If you're torrenting or doing whatever like crazy and pulling 1TB a month, then even a normal ISP might be slightly unhappy with you. But they're too busy making money off you to bother with their T&S in general. NZ ISPs don't really care your your internet use compared to a lot of other countries. You can still pirate stuff and that's fine, but you go to Aussie and pirate stuff, they'll send you warnings.

The speed I'm getting is around 380 down and 40 up. Very consistent speeds, no jitter or anything.

Also, this is the deal I bought last year:
        https://www.cheapies.nz/node/53565

Even at the current price of $559, I think that's still cheaper than most other ISP plans. It comes down to $46.58.

The router I got is a ZTE 5G router from Aliexpress for around $380, which was the total final cost including GST and shipping. That's the cheapest I could find. You could also get a portable SIM router and that doubles its purpose as you get to take it with you when you go travelling. However, those are more expensive.

    • Does that price include a 5G modem/router? From what I've seen they are fairly expensive.

      • +1

They are around $200, there are a few sold on fb marketplace.

      • No, it doesn't. This is the deal I bought last year:

It's really just a one time investment though. Once you have a 5G router that you can use, all you have to do is buy a new plan each year. Considering that most ISP plans are probably around $80/month (as of this writing), that's $960 a year. If you buy a 5G router for $380, you're left with $580, still enough to buy the plan at $559 despite it not being on sale. And you're still left with $21 to spare.

    • Doesn’t the speed drops down quite a lot as the limit has been reached.

      • +1

Whats the limit?, i use 1tb a month.

      • I use between 20-30TB a month and haven't been ping.

      • No, it doesn't. The plan I got is unlimited data and speed. But of course, you can choose a cheaper one to save on money (doubt you're saving much), at the expense of lower speed and data cap.

        • Oh that’s great then. Thought they wouldn’t miss the chance to throttle down the speed with some hidden t&c

Sometimes I wish home wifi could be cheap for everyone. I live alone in a house and was paying like 90 dollars a month for fibre broadband till a month ago, I ended up disconnecting it since I have unlimited hotspot mobile data and full bars of 5G at home, works a charm and saves me paying for fibre internet.

    • +2

100/20 unlimited is around $60 depending on the provider

Rocket Mobile also has good prices, similar to Mighty Mobile.

Cheaper way to do home mobile broadband is grab a 5G mobile and USB Tether to FritzBoz 7490 (or other versions).
Other brand routers may work (Like GL.iNet routers) or may not work with USB tether (some Asus ones), but I know the FritzBoz 7490 works for sure and keeps the mobile charged (ideally get a mobile that has the limit 80% overcharge protection built in).

This way allows you to use the phone too (Can use it manage all the household apps and let you declutter your personal one)
Basically becomes the modern landline lol

idk if USB Tethering is still against T&C with some providers, but seems to be within Mighty Mobile and Rocket Mobile's T&C

Mighty Mobile Bot says: Yes, USB tethering is allowed with Mighty Mobile. You can tether your data to other devices, but please be aware that this may use your data faster, especially when streaming or downloading large files. Our fair use policy applies to all plans.

Yes, USB tethering (hotspot) is included on all our mobile plans! Your hotspot data comes with speeds matching your mobile plan.
Just keep in mind that after you use up your hotspot data allocation, speeds will drop to a max of 1.2Mbps. But you can't use our SIMs in mobile routers - they're for personal mobile use only.

Just to clarify also regarding Hotspots:
      - using a phone in WIFI Hotspot mode you'll find the phone is getting very hot often, as all devices will be connecting to the phone itself, it causes high resource usage and battery drain on the phone
      - using the phone in USB Tether Hotspot allows the connection stuff for devices be offloaded to the router keeping the phone very cool and also gives you flexibility and more security

      • Depends on the phone. I hotspot constantly at work and my phone is fine. Phones using a vapour chamber for cooling is fine and the chip matters too. And if you're using a spare phone for hotspot sharing, you might as well keep it plugged in, so battery isn't an issue really.
