my mum is looking for the best laptop she could get for less then $1000 i have a look can't really find any good deals maybe i missed something?
i told my mum to wait or get a used or refurbished laptop but she wants a brand new one asap

Cheap new devices are generally a poor choice as the build quality is severely lacking, I always recommend HP ProBook/Elitebook or Lenovo ThinkPads as they are proven robust and reliable.
There is a good selection of new and refurbished ones in the market that would be suitable.
best laptop below 1000 will be used / refurbished or reconditioned Enterprise or Business grade computers dell has Latitude Precision etc . Lenovo has Thinkpad Thinkcenters etc . HP has Probook elitebook ASUS has there own Even acer also have . they are built well and were originally given 3 to 5 years warranty and they make them to last ,
alternative to this will be Apple i know its not a pc but since m1 apple they are just amazing . you can easily score m1 m2 macbooks for below 1000 nzd you can use it for some years and then change the batteries from apple it self then you have 5 more years of life cant beat it .
also if you want to get best performance out of your machine you will have to use linux , you can install a rock which is debian based linux or breading edge based on arch ,
What are her requirements outside of being able to use a browser to watch videos, check her emails etc?
