Will this be online aswell ?

    • +3

On the website it says click and collect not available, available from 16th. I assume website will be online from 1PM tomorrow but for delivery only.

      • I hope so because I am at work then 😭

    • +2

Just received an email confirming online will be available from tomorrow @ 1PM.

  • +3

    Is xbox360 considered retro?

    • +1

      Yep

  • +2

Okay so you cant buy anything off the website, all items are gone 😮 wow

    • Yeah thats annoying as was gonna look at prices

  • +4

    Damn it's actually happening

  • +2

It will be chaos tomorrow I imagine, but I'll definitely have a look myself as well.

  • +2

My wishlist is gone. So I'm a little annoyed at that. Oh well, I'll still check it out tomorrow.

  • +4

1pm tomorrow, not sure what would happen between 8am-1pm….checking stock??

    • +1

With their current stock levels they should be able to do that by 8:30

    • +6

Probably doubling the price labels on everything;)

    • They're gathering up stock they're able to send back to suppliers

  • +2
    • +2

Interesting that they are goin to start shipping to us from Aus, so another online operation run from over there.

Q: Can I keep my EB World PLUS membership and use it when it’s possible to ship to NZ via ebgames.com.au when it launches? A: Yes.

  • +3

This could be the next GME! I'm buying calls on EB games right now. This could moon 100%

    • +2

Can someone translate this for me ? :)

      • Google 'meme stock' 😉 at your own risk.

      • +5

It's a joke about the GameStop short squeeze, but I'm not sure if the user above knows that EB Games is owned by GameStop.

    • +1

give us some of those tendies

  • +1

If i google borderlands 4 it says its 80ish at ebgames, but if u click on it get an error. I wonder if 80 is the half price or if it was already on sale for 80 and itll be 40.

    • +1

$80 would have been with the 30% off sales that has been on since boxing day. Most games that were over $100 came down to about $80, switch 2 games were mostly $83

      • So if i understand this right, itll now be 40ish? I guess 2mro b4 they open they may put the old price back

        • +1

will be off sticker price, so if it was $80 it's sticker price is probably about $110, so will be some where between $50 and $60 tomorrow.

          • @Everettpsycho: Oh is that what sticker price means? Like "original price" not "the sticker that was on it today" ah ill go anyway

            • @quote: Well that's my interpretation of it, it won't be 50% off the 30% off price. They didn't change anything in store with the 20% and 30% sales so figure it will be 50% off the same value those sales were based on.

              • +1

@Everettpsycho: I guess so, correct, they didn't change anything in store when it was 30% sale.

    • +2

Will be 40. "discount off marked price" as stated.

  • +1

    Received this in my email:
    https://files.cheapies.nz/upload/17693/5904/screenshot_20260…

@Wakrak might wanna update the title.

    • +1

right, so shop will open 1pm, that will make sense…..was wondering what price would be tomorrow morning..

    • +4

interesting the website will be online at 1pm with 50% off. If they are shipping from stores I wouldn't hold hope you will get your order shipped before someone snaps up your game in store.

  • I'm in the middle of nowhere between Hamilton, Auckland, and Tauranga. If you had to choose and you could only go one way, which city would you head to try your luck?
Any guess which would have more / better stock?
Auckland has more stores, but maybe also a bigger population base.

    • +4

Tauranga for sure, less competition for items.

  • +1

I'm assuming this excludes console hardware?

    • +2

It doesn't say it excludes them like they usually do. Imagine they will be snapped up by 1:01 though of they are included.

      • +5

They'll probably be bought by employees before the store opens. And fair enough, too, since they're losing their jobs.

    • +1

Says everything……. so hopefully includes it

    • +3

2nd hand ones should be, but I'd imagine all new console stock will be set aside to send back to the respective suppliers along with first party accessories and anything else the suppliers will take back.

      • +2

I wonder this too. The only thing I want is a Switch 2. Ah well.

        • +3

If they were going into receivership then I'd say yes they'd probably have them, but because they're voluntarily closing the doors then that means they'd have had time to work with their NZ and Aus suppliers to minimize their losses.

I could be completely wrong of course and the store floors tomorrow might be an ocean of new Switch consoles for $350 each and PS5's for $400 and all the latest games for half price, but I highly doubt it.

I imagine staff will be snapping up most of the good deals anyway.

    • +3

Looks like there won't be any consoles as they're sending all the new stock back.

      https://www.reddit.com/r/auckland/comments/1qclrir/eb_games_…

    • +1

I saw a comment on Reddit from an employee saying consoles are being sent to head office.

    • +1

Someone pointed out they have changed the website to now say it excludes hardware, so sadly no

    • Correct. Home page (now) says: "Excluding Hardware, Digital Content & Currencies, Giftcards"

  • +2

Might be able to pricematch elsewhere too (Logitech, board games etc)

    • Yeah, I'm hoping to price match some games at The Warehouse.

    • +9

Clearance price so could be tricky.

  • +1

What is everyone trying to get tomorrow if they can get to an EBGames at 1pm?

    • +2

Switch 2. And some Switch games.

      • +1

        New Consoles wont be there

    • Borderlands 4 and see what xbox360 games they have

      • +3

wow, judging by the downvotes there're a few people here who don't like lightsabers

        • trial by combat?

      • Kinda hilarious how many downvotes this is getting. Screw your free will to do what you please with your money lol

        • Do you think it's the idea of reselling or the lightsaber that's triggering?

          • @bigcheese: Star Wars has been pretty divisive lately, couldn't be anything but that.

        • +13

Probably because a lot of people see Cheapies as a platform to help others find good deals, while buying everything to sell at a higher price is the opposite of that lol.

        • @Wakrak To be fair communism does have its advantages over capitalism, I can't think of any right now but I'm sure they're there.

      • +4

        Gross

  • Anyone got any Hitman games (disc) for me on Xbox Series X? Haven't been able to find much if any

  • +1

I was in one of their stores today and thought it looked quite bare.

Lots of stock already gone compared to pre-xmas.

I was looking for the Roblox gift cards but couldn't find the gift card display anywhere in the shop.

    • Gift cards excluded

      • I was looking pre-closing down sale and they had already removed them. I'm not surprised they were excluded.

  • +3

I thought the more interesting thing is how they are going to open the AU site to NZ.

They have some stunning deals in aussie very often.

    • +3

The SD express card deals recently looked bloody good on ozbargain.

Considering how much they used to sting for postage from NZ based stores though I'm not that optimistic about their pricing from aus.

      • They fixed that towards the end, last time was $3.90 for shipping which I thought was reasonable.

    • Shipping from NZ stores already costs a tonne from them

  • I do feel bad for the staff but it is bad management decisions over a long period of time. Yes transitioning to digital games could've been one of the factors but every business has had to deal with big changes like covid, tech shifts, AI and so on. Adapting is part of running a business. It is sad and frustrating that we are losing EB games from NZ. But it didn't come out of nowhere

  • +1

I heard from an inside source that consoles will be getting sent back to HQ and resold so won't be available to the general public. Maybe the preowned ones will be available though?

    • +1

Yea no way they going to be discounted, they will be sent back to aus.

  • Anyone made it to the store, please advise some deals?

    • +4

      Did you read the post?

"Our stores and website will be open tomorrow from Thursday 15 January 1PM NZDT with a 50% Off Closing Down Sale."

      • +2

You have way more patience than I do.

      • oh i thought the stores will be opening at 9AM usual time. thanks for clarifying.

    • The one at sylvia park opens at 1pm

    • It's online at the same time.

  • +15

I went to the slyvia park one, closed till 1pm, there is a queue right now.
The store is quite bare, i dont see consoles,
    Sony games are so few,
Mosty plastic toys remain and stuff they wont take to headoffice.

    • Thx for sharing the pics. The stores gonna be packed they're pokey little places could be like rush hour in Shinjuku.

    • +1

Thanks for the pics. I dont want to go if theres only pokemon plushies left. It helped inform my decision.

    • Wow, so anything of value is gone. Not worth the effort imho.

      • I went to the site at 12:55 and they had all the stock online. Got a bunch of Switch 2 games for delivery.

  • +2

The homepage has been updated now to note that it excludes hardware

  • I feel like the stock that's left and not returned to suppliers and/or sent to Aus would be horrible, just junky stuff.

  • +2

All I want is board games! I doubt there will be many left as stock has been dwindling for a while now.

  • +7

    Confirmed from Auckland store

    No trading cards
    No consoles
    No hardware
    No new games

Only merch and pre owned games

    https://imgur.com/a/WDmE7Qx

    • +1

      thx for the headsup

    • I'm outside Westgate store now. The line has gone around the block

      I'm turning back

    • Now at Albany. The line is about as long as Westgate

  • +1

I can confirm Riccarton in Christchurch have no consoles, they were all sent back to the supplier. There were just a very small number of controllers there, but otherwise mostly it was merch, plush toys and such, I assume pre-owned games too.

  • +2

It's beginning to sound like it's not worth the hassle.

I mean, unless you're REALLY after some (shudder) Pop figure or a pair of novelty Rick & Morty socks.

Although, 10 points for Gryffindor for whomever goes up to the counter and says, "You there, young man, how much for the shirt you're wearing?"

  • +1

Saw on a fb post where someone uploaded a photo saying only pre owned games and loot are for sale.

  • +3

Line outside Wellington Cuba St store is halfway around the block @ 12:40!

    • +2

Lmao in this weather? I hope they get what they wanted.

  • +1

Do not bother with Newmarket Auckland, think there are like 2000 people
