Apple iPhone Air 256GB, Assorted Colors $1733 + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ JB Hi-Fi

70

clearly they want these off the shelf for these prices, only 34 dollars more than the base iphone. arguably a downgrade if you care about cameras but if your just looking for the performance uplift with the a19 pro chip or really care about your overly long brick being super thin, then this might be an ok deal.

Note: eSIM only

The iPhone Air is actually a solid phone, even though most people seem to dislike it. Battery life is very close to the iPhone 17, so it’s not really a drawback. The biggest downside is the single speaker, but it’s not terrible and still usable for everyday listening. The A19 Pro chip is definitely worth the extra $34, and the jump from 8GB to 12GB of RAM is a decent upgrade. Since AI features rely heavily on memory, that extra RAM should make a noticeable difference over time and help the phone age better.

Esim will be a deal breaker for a lot of people (cheapies like me) who are on kogan mobile though

Hopefully with more phones being eSim only, Kogan also bring eSim to NZ customers

IMO it’s just the price that makes it a hard sell.

By all measures except thickness the 17 seems to be a better phone for cheaper at the expense of losing a camera.

Tbh memory might help them age better but it will be interesting to see what kind of memory this years iPhones have, my guess is it will be on the lower end

Id still grab one but the heat issues on my 15 pro are steering me well away from iPhone

      • yeah if your worried about heat issues the air is not a good buy, its meant to run really hot as it has the same chip as the iphone 17 pro(albeit 1 less gpu core) but doesnt have the aluminium unibody the pro has.

$1733 for a phone is a ripoff got my phone for less then half the price of an iphone and it has almost as good cpu has more ram and more storage better battery life ect
why do people keep buying overpriced iphones

      • +2

iOS is a big selling point for heaps of people.

Tbh given the last year or so and the new update I’m finding it a negative more than a positive

what phone would that be? cause cpu wise even the highest end snapdragons trail behind the a19 in most benchmarks.

        • I think the point he was making is that you can get high-end Android phones at a fraction of the price, which makes them better value for money.

I haven't compared the specs, but honestly does it even matter if a Snapdragon chip is behind in benchmarks compared to A19? They can already run the latest games and most CPU intensive tasks without any issues, they've got great battery specs and storage and everything else. A lot of the mid-range Android phones already rival flagship phones in terms of specs.

The idea is cool but the drawbacks around the camera are a nope for me. Ultrawide I can go without but the zoom lens is a must.

That’s fair if it’s a must-have for you. The Pro would be your only choice, but $600 is a lot. I’d like the Pro too, but I can’t justify the cost when the Air is 20% off, and I really like the idea of a lighter iPhone.

These don't retain their value well. Most of the near new ones on Trademe and Marketplace are selling between $1200-1400.

    • Heaps listed in the $1500 range and not moving

Noel Leeming has this at $1722 in-store, though online it's still $1799. Just bought two for myself and the misses :)

    • Interesting that is in-store only. Which store is it?

      • +1

        Westfield Riccarton, Chch

        • The NL online team won't match the store price. Oh well, only $10.

  • Some of the telcos have 250 off rrp + MRO discount.

For example 2d has $250 off rrp + $500 off if you are on the $80 plan. Which gets the pricing down to around the 16e 256gb. At that price you should go for the air over the 16e.
This would also be lower if you did this via Noel’s @$1722 + 2d MRO of $500 off which would be $1222 which makes it cheaper than the 16e and close to $1000 off
