Picked up one of these last week and im happy with it

  • Any idea how much energy is lost from the available 20k when using it?

    • Depends on several factors, not least of which is the quality of the components and how inflated the manufacturer's numbers are. I answered a question along similar lines here if you're interested. Basically 20,000mAh is the reported capacity of the lithium cell inside, and there will be conversion losses both boosting it to whatever voltage the USB is negotiated to, then additional conversion losses (probably) reducing it back to the lithium cell of the device you are charging. Efficiency is improving all the time with improvements in technology (eg higher voltage USB reduces loss across cables, GaN technology reduces conversion losses), but 15-30% is probably a reasonable ballpark.

Ordered one of this Harvey Norman offer. Appears to be a quite good deal. I find these days my old 10,000 mah slow charge tech battery banks are too limited in performance etc.

    are they triple C?

    • No only 1x Type-C (single) , you'd be paying much more for 3x Type-C connectors

      • +2

Ha, na, they're referring to this: https://www.travelofchina.com/power-bank-rules-2025-what-is-…

I grabbed one so will check when I pick it up tomorrow if someone else hasn't answered in the meantime.

        • Ahh right, Yeah most likely will say it on the power bank or packaging or would need to email the company making them

        • Are they quite strict with that in China? If so, with that much traveller they screen how would they individually check those small fine markings.

          • +1

@Divhon: Definitely are, they took 2 off us last month. You have to remove them at the security screen and they take them aside and check, every single one from what we saw. Didn't seem to hold up the lines or make them much slower than you'd usually expect at an airport though.

            • +1

@Kiwi: Just came back from China. They're now enforcing the CCC mark on all departures, both domestic and intl. No marking, no powerbank.

            • @Kiwi: They really know efficient systems aye. Good to know as I'm wanting to visit Guangzhou and their Disney land soon.

              • +1

@Divhon: They are cool cities, our daughter really enjoyed Disney, long day though. If you have a child they might like the kites in Shenzhen.

          • @Divhon: If they are not CCC, they will take them and throw them away when you go though x-ray.

      • ChargeCore are not CCC and look a bit cheap , only RNZ

Belkin 10K one are CCC printed and i would believe 20k one is also CCC

I bought the Laser 10000mah from Noel Leeming the other week. The usb c port would stop charging my phone, or the battery would stop being charged if the cable was nudged in any slight way. Noel Leeming kindly replaced it, but the replacement was even worse so I got a refund
