  • My Dad got one of these when they were $99 last year at The Warehouse and it's great. It's so handy to watch shows on TVNZ OnDemand on the 50" TV screen, without having to plug in a laptop to the TV. I highly recommend the FreeviewPlus receiver from Dish TV.

    • You can cast wirelessly from your PC with a Chromecast, via the tab casting function on Chrome. Not as easy as Freeview Plus and no PVR function, but it's $50-70 cheaper. If you have a SmartDNS/VPN service you can cast stuff like BBC iPlayer and Netflix USA.

Also the reviews of this unit (on Dick Smith) ain't that flash:

      • Yeah, if you don't mind getting your hands dirty and having an issue every now and then you can go the Raspberry PI Openelec route. Pi 2 ($64) + 8gb micro SD ($8) + Dvb-t tuner and remote ($10) + large storage (64gb USB $25) for ~$100 you can have a cheap HTPC that does what a smart TV does + more.

Best thing I did was build my $400 HTPC/NAS and 2 years later I still use it every day (as oppose to built-in freeview)
