You pay for it in the yearly subscription

  • +7

Ring products are a scam. Basic security features only work with a subscription. AVOID IT!!

  • Sub?
    No buy

  • If you’re ok with the subscription then you can just a bunch more on. Not worth it for just a few cameras.

Pretty enticing price until I remembered having to set up a bunch of Ring cameras for work a few years ago. Awful video quality even with the AP sometimes a few metres away, motion detection barely worked, shoddy playback through the app or website for recordings, poor quality of their mounting brackets, and you have to stay locked into a yearly $50-100+ subscription. Can't imagine much has changed since then. Only good thing was their theft replacement policy.

Go for something else that allows local network setup/recording at least that will cost a few hundred more and require a bit more setup but save you so much in headache and running costs down the line. Otherwise in 5-10 years you'll be spending thousands locked into a shitty ecosystem.

If you want to buy this only for the live only playback without a subscription, you might as well get a camera for $20-30 from AliExpress and it'll probably be able to do more.

    Stay away from Ring.

  • Maybe use it as cheap baby monitor

I bought one because its cheap and still good even as a dummy camera plus comes with 30 day trial. Might Keep my drug dealing neighbours away.
