I grabbed one of these just over a year ago, printed probably hundreds of pages and still using the same ink bottles it came with.

Pro tip: you can buy the ink off AliExpress too, way cheaper than the official ink

My only experience with an Epson Ecotank was the discovery it has an internal counter that when tripped requires a mandatory service technician call out to reset it.

They call it the "Ink Pad Counter" and it will not print until the counter is reset, to reset it you either have to download dodgy software from the internet and buy a reset key from a dodgy third party who have hacked them, or get an Epson service technician to do the work for an unknown fee.

Unless you are in the US, where they were sued for it and subsequently allow you to reset it yourself through their support channel at no cost.

(profanity) Epson, would never buy one again, it's a soft-lock "failure" when nothing is wrong with the sole purpose of getting money out of you.

I Googled Epson Waste Ink and this was the first result:

If you want a good printer that's infinitely reliable, dirt cheap and high quality, get a USED HP M277/279/281/283 LaserJet from TradeMe or Facebook and fill it with aftermarket toners from AliExpress. The toners have the drums built into them and HP charges insane money for them, but they're cheap and cheerful from AliExpress and the built in drums means the consumable everyone ignores gets replaced every time, keeping them basically running forever.

I got my M277 from a Cheapies deal in 2015 and it's still running strong, and have now lead more than a dozen friends and family to buy used ones (for as low as $10 on TradeMe/Facebook) who have never had an issue (that wasn't fixed with a new, aftermarket toner).

    • Do these recommendation HP M277/279/281/283 LaserJets support Apple/Android printing etc via WiFi?

      • I don't know about Apple, I assume Apple has done something to cripple everything unless you pay them a million dollars, but shows up as a printer and prints fine from Android devices.
