Anyone know of a way to get this onto an eSIM only iPhone?

I have another iPhone and wondering whether it's possible to convert it from pSIM to eSIM on there before transferring it to the other phone.

    • +2

Kogan NZ doesn't do eSim unfortunately. eSim is only available in AU

      • +1

When i swapped from s24 to s25 it asked if i wanted to make my Sim into an esim, i didnt so i chose no. If i had chosen yes would it have worked or messed it up?

        • +1

I would say it may work but you would have to start with a physical SIM and then convert it to eSIM.
I'm only guessing though - would pay to check with Kogan first before attempting.
It would be interesting to know if this is possible.

You wouldn't be able to use the eSIM only iPhone as there is no way to start with a physical SIM in the first place which Kogan NZ require.

        • It's really unclear, especially with these MVNOs and their limited documentation.

I've been able to convert a 2degrees pSIM to eSIM on an iPhone, but have also had issues transferring a native eSIM from Pixel to Pixel, because 2degrees had disabled that functionality on their side (and require you to pay $5 for a new SIM to transfer 👎)

        • It would let you go through the process then tell you to contact your provider.

Kogan has to support eSIM which it currently doesn't, so you can't convert it the same way like 2Degrees can unfortunately.

          • @BananaMeadow: If you already have a sim holder then why you you want to make it a eSIM to use?
Not sure why anyone would want to give up the simplicity of using a physical sim?!

            • @Barserk: Itd be handy if you couldn't wait for a sim to be sent, or if you were using both a sim and an esim at the same time. Personally id rather have a physical sim

              • @quote: Same thought here.
It’s okay if you wish to have an option to use eSIM only or use the phone for dual sim. But I’m kinda disappointed with how some companies are pushing it down at our throats as the only option (looking at you apple) but I don’t see any customer backlash. Whereas,it is surely a downgrade in my book! And people are going with the flow and not thinking to vote with their wallet to change it.

            • @Barserk: My use case was dual SIM - most flagships don't accept dual pSIM anymore.

I converted my 2degrees pSIM with my main number to eSIM so that I could use my pSIM slot to rotate through the different offers for mobile data as they came up, without having to port over my number each time.

          • @BananaMeadow: Ah, right. Thanks for the heads up 😊

  • +1

Still get full price of 660 for two . BOGOF doesnt get applied yet. Is this offer not live yet?

    • +2

You put one in basket and receive 2

      • +1

Thank you. So just purchase 1 item of 330 and Kogan will send two codes and two sim cards ?

        • Last year yeah, and i have it in my cart and at pay screen it says buy one get one free

        • +1

Confirmation : I bought 1 item and got two Codes (BOGOF works!)

  • I got last years and will get again, is it as simple as adding the voucher when i get it? Do i have to wait until my current one is about to or has expired?

Edit - DW says on the site

    • +2

Better to wait til it expires because it doesn't stack

      • Oh ok, the instructions on the site say different. Ohwel i have a month to figure it out

        • +1

Sorry misread. Yeah you can buy it now and then activate it after yours expires. Make sure before the 31st Dec

  • +2

    Ordered a LARGE.

Happy to on sell one of the codes for $165 if someone wants it.

    DM me.

    • +1

      Have DM'd you :)

      NOTE: This has been sold.

  • +1

Can I still use my current number if switch to Kogan? Also, hows the mobile/data network in Kogan.

    • +2

Yes. you can port your existing number. Kogan uses One NZ 5G network.

    • Yup you can switch with your current number. And it works pretty well on the One network

    • Yes can keep number, reception is fine think it uses one network. Good thing about kogan is you get free mms, free voice mail, can send to short numbers and when ya data is out it just stops dsnt charge you overuse (some ppl dnt like that, i like it)

    • +3

If you are a new customer you can get the Large plan for one month here for just $5 including the SIM delivered.

Then just buy this BOGOF deal as well and make sure you activate before the month on the starter plan expires.
Cheap way to extend for another month but only for customers not already on Kogan.

  • My current one expires in may does anyone know if I activate one of these will it just add a year to it?

    • +8

no, you will lose the remainder

  • Does Kogan support overseas roaming?

    • +4

Yes it does. You can buy international bundles too, not the cheapest though.

    • I could receive and send txts in Au when I was there without doing anything (no data (I assume I tried), didn't try the phone). Ended up being useful for signing into stuff (which I hadn't considered).

    • Kogan supports wifi calling. So if you are on wifi, you can make/receive calls & sms. Couple of times outside NZ, I was able to use it without any addons.

    • Just a small rant. My wife is on a Kogan prepay plan and pays $12 for 3 days of roaming. My One NZ plan is $80/month and I friggin have to pay $10 PER DAY for roaming! You get no choice and pay $10 if you even jjst turn your sim card on to receive a text!

      • Might be time for you to switch too then!
In saying that, the Kogan roaming pack only gives you 500mb of data for the 3 days, so not a lot.

Must have lost alot of people churning in ~August/September when they failed to offer a similar promo to prior years.

  • Yes!!!! 👍

  • anyone keen for extra large 32gig? let me know i will lisr it on trademe, thanks

  • Any know what the old price was for this combo last black friday sale? I only bought the 4GB package last year for $250 but might go for this one.

    • +1

      Same price iirc

    • It was the same price - just copied the table over at the top of the thread.

  • +1

    Yes!

Had to switch to the 2degrees $19 prepay plan when my last Kogan Large plan ran out in September after being with Kogan for a long time. Forgot that 2Degrees only includes 200 minutes per month and ran out of minutes half way through the month. Glad to be back on the Kogan Large plan!!

  • +3

No love for small or medium plans. That's annoying!

    • +5

For $13.75/month it's a very cheap price compared to everything else available.

      • +1

Yeah definitely a good price, so will just have to suck it up. I'd still rather not pay for data I'm not going to use though, but nevermind. 4GB/month on medium plan was plenty enough for me.

    • How do people get by with 1.5gb data a MONTH? Do you just use your phone for texting

      • +3

        WFH

      • +4

I'm on wifi 95% of the time. Medium plan at 4GB/month was kind of the sweet spot for me.

        • Yeah..i am also waiting for 4gb deal….

Why they not offer that this yr..

    • I just went on the website and it says the medium monthly plan is on sale for $15, down from $25?

      • +1

Considering that would cost your $180/yr, This large plan at $165 is cheaper & better if you share it with someone.

      • That is just one Plan. If you can buy 1 get one free it works out cheaper for more data !

  • Looking to buy a Large via trademe w/ afterpay . I'll pay the extra fee. Cheers

  • +1

What's the chances of there being deals on the lower data plans by the end of the year? BOGOF or otherwise.

  • I have ordered a large and happy to go half with someone for $165. DM Please

  • Just wondering what was the christmas/boxingday deal last yr? Should i wait for that or just go for black friday one

    • This is probably as good as it gets. Boxing day was the same deal

  • I also will have a large to sell for $165. Happy to sell via Trade Me if you want to pay the success and ping fees, or just on here if that suits, which is what I did last year. PM me.

    EDIT: Pending sale to spamhead.

    • Sold to spamhead!

  • I'll be buying an extra large and a large plan tonight, will have one of each to sell if anyones interested? Happy to provide my ID if people need.

    • Have DM'd

    • Keen to purchase the XL :)

  • +1

Maybe it's just me, I've harped on it before but unless you are miserly or consciously aware of your usage, it just seems mightymobile is the better deal.

    • +2

I pay literally no attention to how much data I use and the Large plan has done me fine for the last year. For the sake of this comment I just checked my data usage for the first time and it averages out to about 7.5GB/month, so I would guess your usage must be a lot higher than mine and maybe the others who are happy with Kogan.

    • +2

i agree to an extent — i think theres just a trade off you have to make between speeds and total usage. personally i think i'll be going with mightymobile because i tend to hotspot my laptop or for friends, and can easily use upwards of 3GB a day, where 50Mbps is enough and i don't have to think about usage

for most people 15GB a month is plenty and afaik speeds aren't capped as low as mightymobile. there's no better deal here it just depends on the use case.

    • Just set a data alert on your phone. Simple to do on an Android

      • Then what do you do when you get that alert?

  • +1

I have a large plan available for $165 if anyone is interested. DM Please.

    • Just DM's you

  • Hmm, I just purchased mighty mobile plan to replace my contact plan before this poped up.

  • I'm selling one LARGE plan. DM me if interested.

    • (Sorry folks, the large plan is now Trademe buynowed by yours truly ! Thanks CharlieD. :) ).

  • I just ordered a large plan so will have one for sale. DM me if interested

  • It infuriates me greatly that you have to agree to marketing communications just to make a purchase.

    • I found nowadays a lot of websitse it's impossible to unsubscribe LOL

    • Gmail can unsubscribe for you. Open a new Gmail account just for this

  • I share the view that for the Large size 15GB 365 DAY plans (atleast). , at an effective 50% off, so $13.56 averaged out for everything 30 day or so month. This now for B.F sales is probably (?) going to be the best deal we get from Kogan this year. :)

  • Anyone keen to go halves in an extra large plan? I’m happy to do the purchase :)

    • I would be interested.

  • +1

Did they rerun this offer around boxing day last year? Mine current plan expires only by mid Feb.

    • +1

      Likewise.

They didn't do a Xmas/boxing day one last year (or not a BOGOF or 40% off anyway).

Likewise, mine expires in Feb. And I can remember using something else for at least a month cause I'd got one around Xmas the year before (I lost a month that time). I realised later that the Black Friday one last year could have been activated in Dec - when I actually needed it. (It was also only extra large plans).

Likely to be a New Year/Xmas one. The one I have currently was BYGOF "Back to School" - so maybe again lateJan/Early Feb. I'm guessing one of them will be either 40% off or BOGOF

      • +1

Ahh yes, it was the " Back to school " deal last year. It was definitely a BOGOF deal that time.
        Thanks.
