    Do not stay in APA hotels. You can find similarly priced business hotels that are better.

    • Interested to hear why. Would this be related to the owner?

        Maybe the room size too small? Otherwise their hotel location usually is really convenient

        The owner of APA has published books denying the Nanking Massacre, a horrific massive crime comparable to the Holocaust in World War II. More than 330,000 civilians in Nanking were brutally massacred, raped, and had their bodies burned by Japanese in 1937.
        As someone from Nanking living in New Zealand, I’m not here to dictate what other people should do, and I’ve personally traveled to Japan more than once.
        However, for me, I choose not to financially support someone like this war extremist.

        • Can you link evidence to this please?

            @mcaekey:

            dropping the atomic bombs was a criminal act. The U.S. had to create a story in which it had no choice but to bomb Japan – a bad country – in order to end the war, which was a way of rationalizing what it had done. That’s why historical facts have been warped and Japan has been made to take responsibility for sins such as carrying out an aggressive war, slaughtering 300,000 people in the Nanking Massacre, and forcibly transporting 200,000 Korean comfort women. Of course the U.S. knows that the Nanking Massacre and comfort women stories are fabrications, but it can not admit that as doing so would mean the U.S. would assume responsibility for its sins.

            From a conversation with Toshio Motoya (founder and president of APA Group) in his publication, "Apple Town".

            Basically, the dude thinks those atrocities are lies that America invented in order to justify dropping the atomic bombs on Japan.

            • @dankd: I see. Yikes. I'll avoid that chain then!

          • @mcaekey: Don’t you know that even the remote country like New Zealand sent around 140,000 soldiers to fight in World War II, suffering over 30,000 casualties, including heavy losses in the Pacific, such as the Solomon Islands while fighting against Japan?
            Why should we deny or justify the actions of a Japan that launched aggressive wars across the Pacific? If it weren’t for the brutal invasions by fascist Japan, why would so many people have lost their lives defending their homes and countries?

            I visited the Nanking Massacre Memorial Hall once as a child, and only once, because the sight of human bones scattered across the ground and the countless images and texts documenting the atrocities left an unbearable pain in my heart. I could never have the courage to return. History must not be forgotten, and crimes against humanity must never be denied or justified.

            Modern Japan can be a wonderful travel destination—I’ve visited multiple times myself and also have Japanese friends. However, I firmly oppose those who try to downplay or deny the brutal aggressions in Japan’s history.

              @Anarchy: Er I am not denying this occured. I just wanted proof that this company specifically should be avoided, which someone helpfully above provided.

            • @Anarchy: It's just not something that's really taught at school. People are aware of the fighting that went on in the Pacific, Asia, and Africa, but most of what is taught focuses on Europe and the Nazis.

              If anyone wants to learn more about the brutality of the war against Japan, I'd recommend Dan Carlin's "Supernova in the East" podcast series.

    @beatthatflight, how much from Wellington?

  • +1

    Is there a way to spend a few days in Taipei when catching the connecting flight?

    • You book it as a multicity/stopover on the China airlines website but it's significantly more expensive at a glance when I tried.

  • What do you think of fiji airlines?
