    Watch out for this: https://help.trademe.co.nz/hc/en-us/articles/13782700334479-…

They are introducting a fee for the buyer for some listings sold under this free listing period as an experiment.

Why is there a service fee?
This fee helps us cover the costs associated with the development of technical infrastructure and customer support that makes your experience secure and reliable. This fee is tiered based on the item price (excl. shipping) and is only charged when you use secure payments such as Ping.

    Item price Service fee
    $0–$10 $0.10
    $10.01–$100 $0.99
    $100.01+ $2.99

This is actually madness, I am lost for words haha.

    • I wonder if they're looking to scrap the 7.9% fee for ping payments or if this will be additional to that

      • +4

the 7.9% is the fee the seller pays on most types of listings.
The 2.19% is an extra fee that you pay if the buyer uses Ping (and I think like 4.95% if they pay with afterpay)

And yes, I suspect they are toying with the idea of reducing/removing the seller fee and instead making the fees payable by the seller.
Personally I'd support keeping the listing fee paid for by the seller, and having any of the extra shit like Ping or Afterpay the buyers choice - if they want to use that then they can pay the extra

I think it's a bit like the councils have changed the rating system and now, charge for individual services. Trade me doing same thing by introducing separate charges that will increase their income because of negative growth. I'm sure they would like to bring a system like the auction houses do online where the seller and the buyer both pay percentage of the item.

The gall of this when their app is currently down and you cannot search anything.

Is this is joke … who imagines this stuff up .. can they really be serious lol ?

        ' … development of technical infrastructure … '

    • That's interesting, there's a few overseas marketplaces that have followed a similar model. Often they will called it a "buyer protection" fee. Mercari does it.
